New system

Post by LVCapo »

I just ordered my stuff from Newegg. I'm not sure if I'm going to sell or just part out my Intel setup yet, but after my experience with my Athlon, I have become a big AMD fan.
Athlon 64 3800+
ASUS A8V Deluxe Wi-Fi
Corsair XMS 3200 LL
Sapphire Radeon X800 Pro w/Vivo
2 Hitachi SATA 80GB HDD
Plextor Premium
Lite On 52x32x52
Creative Labs Audigy 2ZS
19" Vlewsonic Perfectflat monitor
Polar Flo TT blocks

Yeah, its going to cost me $2100, and no I don't have to get snipped. I sold the rest of my sports memorabilia collection for this. Long story short, i bought some stuff from a guy who really needed the money, and after all is said and done turned about $8,000 profit (plus i stuill have my Ali shorts and pic that appraised for $5K)
On top of that I have the Intel setup that I will probably sell so all in all a good cheap upgrade. I didn't get Raptors because I had a budget and to be honest I wasn't real happy with WD after my last experience

**DROOL** wow dude thats a killer system. Im a little suprized that you did not go with the MSI NF3 mobo though, it tops out at 290fsb and is S939. Same with the GFX card, its looking like the 6800gt is the best bang for the buck when your talking about highend graphics. The Hitachi's are going to be fast as hell not quite as fast as the raptors but you will not be dissapointed. All and all looks like a killer system, and man you will be cranking with that 3800+.

that is the new stuff. Auto config 2-2-2-5 @DDR400. I thought about waiting for the MSI board to be released, but I haven't been keen on MSI to this point, and have always loved the stability of the ASUS boards

The only problem wit the 3800+, from what I hear anyway, is that the multiplier is locked, so you can only O/C through the FSB. The FX53 is not locked, but from all the reviews I have seen and from talking to Nate, it isn't worth the extra $200.
As to the NEO board, no one has them yet, and I had two MSI boards before that didn't fare too well. I like the NVIDIA chipset, but the VIA seems to be very fast and stable.
As to the Video cards, this was tough, but everything I have read pooints to the ATI being better quality, the NVIDIA scores better in benchies that were built for it, but the video quality as well as things like power consumption were what swayed me.

all good reasoning. sucks that the neo is not out, it looks like a killer board.

and to my knolage the lower multi are unlocked on the 3800+ its only the higher ones that you cant use.

you are totally right about the multipliers, the lower ones are unlocked, but the higher ones are locked.

512 MB Kingston Hyper X 4000

All very good stuff, in very good shape (The mobo has a burned out 1394 connector and has been modded with some heat sinks.

Xerxes: while the 5 year is nice the seagates do not preform as well as the hitachi's do. The Hitachi drives are the king of the hill right now for desktop aplications. They even out preform the 120jb western digital, the previous leader. The only drive that is faster than the hitachi is the 74gb raptor drive.

And Capper let me see how my $$ works out, i just moved in and now i need a couch, vacume, microwave and a million other small things... but i will let you know if im in a buying mood.

Yeah, i'm going to replace the card. the one i ordered was much nicer and could be upgraded to the XT with a BIOS flash, much better cooling apparatus and came with like 5 games.
to say i'm happy would be a mahjor understatement, this thing flies. i just ran Sandra, and at stock speed the memory hits 6000, and the proc hits 10300. not too bad considering my Intel system couldn't touch that at 3.81!!!. the hitachis are silent and very cool, much happier with them than i was the raptors, though i wish i had gotten a third and rean them in a 3 disk array.

I have come across a few others who had the exact same experience this past week from newegg... kinda makes me wonder if they had idots working in the warehouse or if they ran out of the Toxic Version and just started cramming the OEMs into the shipments.
What really makes me mad is now i'm either stuck with a card i don't really want or I end up paying for the shipping and waiting for them to get the right card in stock, which i have heard could be up to 2 weeks.
A side note. Having an issue with my new system, and can't figure it out. My 12V is hovering right around 11.2. I switched from a 500W to a 520W PSU, no change. I rewired my entire case, no change. I have one set running the DVD/CD/Floppy. the other is ruunning the HDD (RAID array)/ Vdieo Card, and 2 120mm fans. Nothing too extravagant or taxing. No O/C....everything is on standard
Any ideas?
I am not going to W/C this system, I'm thinking I'll either use the stock cooler (39C right now) or go with an SLK 948 and a Chill Vent.

I had the same problem with my video card when I ordered my 9800Pro......... I ordered a Saphire and got thier junk under clocked OEM. They wanted me to pay shipping also.......... What I did was post a extremely bad review of the company on resellerratings.com and within 2 days I got a email from them offering to change the card and also reimburse my shipping............. :D It's worth a try anyway.............
