What do you need it for? You can pick up good ones for as little as £10 over here ($20?) that do everything but measure AC current.

radio shack has them, frys have them(thats where i got mine). there really isnt a certain kind of brand you should get until you start to do some major stuff. As long as it has over volatage protection and is digital you should be fine.

Get Fluke if you want quality that well last, that's what I use. I've had it for 5 or 6 years now, but they cost twice as much as RS brands....;)

			is that too high?

also, whenever I can I will purchase from radio shack, they shipped me that very same multimeter while I was in Iraq for FREE. They ship to soldiers at no cost to us. Very few places do people right these days.. So when someone is actually good to me I try my best to do the same..

For everyday home usage, a regular one would do fine, say something like
this
Though that one needs a $4 battery only available on that site too.

I deal with Fluke products at work every day. For quality that lasts (as stated above) Fluke is the way to go. If you are just looking for something you'll use once every 6 months, and dump back in a drawer, most any cheap one will suffice, but just make sure it does AC, DC and Ohms.
