ATI x1800xt 512MB Frame Rate Issue
ATI x1800xt 512MB Frame Rate Issue
I recently purchased a new ATI x1800xt 512mb video card and my framerates are lower than what they should be. For instance in Half Life 2: Lost Coast on full graphics i'm getting about 22FPS. According to multiple graphs and reviews I've found on the internet I should be getting closer to 40-60 FPS on average. Even my friend, who's running more dated components than I, is getting better FPS on Lost Coast and Far Cry on same graphic settings. Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas of what the problem is? According to 3Dmarks05 my system is running stable, but it is showing a score lower than what it should be (can't recall the exact number at the moment). My specs are AMD Athlon 64 3800+, two 512 MB memory sticks, clocked at 400Mhz. My motherboard is an asus a8n-sli 939 pin. To top things off i'm running all this on a 500watt power supply. I've pretty much established that I am in fact getting lower frame rates than what i should be getting, and what i'm asking is how I can increase the performance of my system to what it should be. Thanks for any help or responses.
Well I usually run Lost Coast at about 1024 X 768 with the rest of the settings on highest. But like I was saying my friend who's using older components is running this on the exact same graphic settings and getting better frames out of it.
And I'm not quite sure what you mean by tray, and where would I be able to find out what's running in my tray?

tray = "system tray" --> all the Icons beside the clock in the bottom right corner!Kimbo16 wrote:Well I usually run Lost Coast at about 1024 X 768 with the rest of the settings on highest. Have you defragged the HDD?
did you enable extra settings in the GFX control panel? (r-click desktop / properties) mayby you have forced Anti aliasing etc?
There could be a possibility that your card is overheating and throttling itself slower so that it doesnt burn out.
Try downloading Rivatuner and open the temperature logging page. Play a game for some time and leave rivatuner running. Rivatuner should show you what temperature your card is running at and what speed the core is at.
After gaming for at least 20mins (to achieve max temp) quit or alt tab your game make the log page fullscreen and grab a screenshot of the rivatuner log page. This will allow us to see if your card is overheating and throttling. You should be able to tell if it is by the temperature reaching high numbers, like 90oC+ and the core speeds bening reduced mid game.
