How much is too much?

Post by DMB2000uk »

So after scanning our desktop PC I noticed how many files we had in use:

It took 1 hour 48 min with one core @ 100% folding and the other virus scanning.

Thats nearly a million files (220GB used!) and we still have 170GB free space! Time for a spring clean?

As long as you keep your disk defragged it shouldn't matter much.

I can only say that you must be careful when you defrag such a large hard drive loaded with files. I remember when I defraged one machine loaded with tons of files, it crashed in middle of my defrag and was unable to access any data after that.
So be sure to do a backup before defrag..

I think HD size is very subjective. For most users, it's hard to fill 100 GB, but for people who regularly accumulate images, video, and/or p0rn, you can never have enough HD :p

Most is stored using "ReiserFS" --> Linux ;)

You can never have enough "Red Dwarf", "Only Fools & Horses" & "Futurama" ;)
