need monitor advice

Post by The Black Pumpkin »

My Dad just purchased this monitor (but not from there) since his old Compaq CRT decided to go yellow on him (yes, everything had a heavy yellow tint.)

The best part is, he got it for $150 at Sam's Club, compared to the $250-$280 I've seen online.

The question I have, is that would this monitor be a good choice for gaming? At that price, I can afford it ( :P ). It's supposed to have a 4ms response time, and I've already tested it a little on Halo and I don't see any ghosting. The only thing I wonder about is the resolution. Would 1440x900 not be good for gaming? (I'm not up to date on widescreening stuff.) Or would some people kill for it?

At this price, if it's good for gaming, I might get two! :)
AMD Opteron 1224SE "Santa Ana" = DFI Lanparty UT NF590 SLI-M2R/G
Crucial Ballistix 4x1GB DDR2 800 = Corsair CMPSU-750TX
Sapphire 4870 1GB = Sceptre X20WG-Naga 20" = Logitech X-530 5.1
Seagate 320GB (SATA II) x2 = Samsung SH-S203B (SATA)

dude that's smoking hot... I just picked up the SAMSUNG 204B to replace my Samsung 915N... Being limited to 1280x1024 sucks and I am looking forward to getting back to 1600x1200. They are doing a $60 rebate on the 204B and I picked it up for $274 each, which isn't bad.

If you got the 940BW for $150 each I'd get two and run dual displays or better yet three and a triple head to go and game on with 57 inches of display around ya.

So it is a good resolution for stuff? I was kinda afraid of being limited to only 900 pixels high, but it looks like all but one 19" widescreens at Newegg have the exact same max resolution, and the one is two monitors on one stand.

Yeah, I think you've convinced me to do it. :P

(Now for money to get three... )

That's a really really really good price. (Did I mention, really!)

I hear from people who go widescreen that they can never go back, even if it's 1440x900
