Post by InspectahACE »

I don't believe new Sata drive interface uses master/slave anymore so that maybe one of your problems.

The SATA hard drive shouldnt be messing up the IDE DVD drive, have you made sure that the jumper select pins are in the right places on the DVD drive? And that the power connector is properly in?

Can you go on device manager (right click my computer, properties, hardware, device manager) and see if there are any problems with the hardware, like an excliamation mark next to the DVD drive or something.

I presume that you ahve double checked that the IDE cable is in properly and the right way around. There are no other drives on that cable right?

Hmm... You could try checking the MSI site for the latest BIOS, what DVD drive do you have?

well...i switched my jumper to master..got a lil improvement in performace with a dvd...but still sucks a$$hole...ide cables are in right..device manager says everythings a-ok..i have the Lite-On DVD-RW SOHW-1693S drive..worked flawlessly on my asus p4p800 mobo and northwood...spose i could check for an updated bios even though this mobo is rather brand new but they do roll out updates almost as bad as "MicroShit"..just dont get how everything runs perfect but the dvd drive is like "hahaha u got owned"

Uninstall the drive, then the IDE controller from device manager, then reboot
Let XP reinstall the drivers automatically

You can also try installing an ASPI driver instead of using XP's default driver
get it here

in my device manager it shows 3 primary and 3 secondary ide channels..it also shows a "standard dual channel PCI IDE contoller"..i uninstalled the primary ide channels..but should i have done the secondary as well ?...i did get very lil increase on performance after uninstallin the primary 3 channels..but i didnt do the other 3 secondary ones..also thought of the video driver but i would assume even the games would be trippin too..i dunno...im very bummed out but will try the aspi drivers as one of the last resorts before tryin a fresh reinstall of windows ..lol..this really sucks..

hmm, windows is know for being temperamental, if you've got the time a reinstall might help. :P

Just seen this for a strange minimum requirement on the LiteOn website:
HDD must have access time < 20 ms; with a minimum of 650 MB free space
Can see why though if your burning DVD's.

A long shot could be upgrading/re-installing the drives firmware:
Look here for your drive, though if you bought it in the last year, odds are that it was already the latest firmware.

After youve tried all that, i think im out of idea's. Sorry. lol, I guess you could always try blowing into the drive incase its dust on the lense :P

MSI should really put manuals on their website.

Ok, I've seen two different pictures of this board, the one on MSI's site has all 5 SATA ports the same color, the one at Newegg show 4 purple and the other kind of a Navy Blue. Make sure that you aren't using the Navy colored one as it's the JMicron controller and may have issues. The other 4 ports are on the Intel southbridge and should work much better.
If your ports are all the same color just try changing to a different SATA port.
