Just Needed to Bare My Soul A Little

Post by Razorbacx »

My dog, my friend for nearly 13 years had to be put down this past Saturday. Old age and who knows what else finally took its toll on him and next to my Grandmother's passing this has been the most painful time in my life. I can't put into words just how much Legend meant to me, my wife and my children.

He was very unique and full of character. A purebred true-white Siberian Husky, he was and is the smartest dog that I have ever been around. He looked more like a wolf than he did your typical Husky, but was as gentle and kind as any animal I have ever seen. For those that have never been around Huskies they like to talk and sometimes I felt that he actually understood what it was that I was saying to him. I would step outside and ask him, "Do you want a goodboy treat?" and he would respond with a resounding, "WOO-WOO!" I find myself looking out the backdoor searching for him still and I've got to say that it pains my heart knowing that he will never be there again. My two year old red & white Husky is even feeling his loss.

I know that some of you are probably saying, what a freak, but you would have to understand that Legend has been with my wife and I most of our marriage and was basically our first child. Watching him suffer as he did and hearing his moans as his body was literally wracked with pain was almost too much for me to bear. I could do nothing but try to comfort him until the end.

Well, thanks to those that actually read this entire post. I know that most of you have a very short leash when it comes to patience. :)

Legend (AKC Name: Siberia's White Legend) October 26th, 1993 - September 16th, 2006.

Sorry for your loss!!

This is what I am worried about since my wife decided to bring our cat home. I have never had a pet in my life, other than fish, and since being disabled, she is my companion ALL day! I wish they would live as long as we do.

Hopefully you will remember the good times and share those with your other dog.

Mike

I also had a Siberian Husky/Alaskan Malamute mix that I grew up with... It was hard to see him go because he made it over 16 years and when he finally went he couldn't walk any longer. I remember being in high school and coming home and sitting with him in the afternoons keeping him company... He stopped walking... stopped eating... and eventually died the day we were to take him to the vet. sigh I'll have another dog like him later when I have more than a 8,000 foot lot in a residential neighborhood.

Sorry to hear you lost Legend... Been there before and it sucks.

I feel your loss. Just last Thursday, my parents put down their lab-mix (part dalmation) Toby.

im really sorry for your loss. My family has had many dogs and as a result many old dogs that pass away and it never gets any easier. They truley are a part of your family and losing them is like losing a child or in my case a sibling. I really am sorry.
