Legit Reviews Visits Intel FAB 24-2 in Ireland

Post by Apoptosis »

Intel Ireland is a major source for Intel Core 2 Duo processors and Legit Reviews was able to peak inside FAB 24-2 to see Intel's 65nm processors being produced. FAB 24-2 cost Intel $2 billion to get up and running at their Leixlip site and just began processor production in June 2006. Read along for a brief article about a place many never get a chance to see.

Hats off to Ken here on the forums for writing up this two page article and taking the time off work to go visit this fab for LR!!

Use to work with Irish Engineers in telecommunicatoins in the early 90's and did a few trips to Dublin. Very Nice. My wife and I plan to vacation (sorry holiday ;) ) in Ireland and the British Isles. If you need any photos of any other manufacturering facilities let me know...so I can write off my holiday too on my income taxes ;) or didn't you think of that  JK :drinkers:

Thanks for dropping by Richie...................For anyone who doesn't know, Richie works with me.....

Eva, Leixlip is a major producer of C2D chips and was likewise with the P4 line too. It was one of the first with 90nm and is now one of the only 65nm plants in the world. Intel also have land ready for yet another FAB....but there no plans as of yet to expand even more........but 45nm is coming after Kentsfield so they might build even more in a year or two.....My guess is not. They will prolly re-tool the older FABs to work with the smaller tech.

Mike, You mean you didn't know I was a blond? Shame on you
