New egg is good unless you have a problem and need a replacement and the person on the other line does not know anything about computers. case and point i got a inwin case off newegg and it was missing the power button and power/HDD LED's. I made it very clear what i needed and the girl sent me a front bezel with nothing attached :( its now been two weeks since i orded that case and i still do not have a working case.

Newegg.com - CORSAIR (XMS Series) TWINX1024-3200XL Memory (System Memory)

Thanks. (Hmmmmmmmmmm, to get the memory with silver heatsinks or black :? )

Ok I've been thinking a bit about my video card... should I get the x800 pro or the x800 xt? The only difference is the clock speeds, 12 pipelines compared to 16 pipelines, and 100+ dollars.

I have the memory with the silver HS, they are awesome!
As far as shopping at Newegg. i had an "experience there recently. They didn't ship me the right video card. No real problem, i called them on iit and the correct one was overnighted to me. Honestly, no one else comes close to the quality of service i have gotten at Newegg.
As to the video card. i have a Sapphire X800Pro w/VIVO, I am getting 108 FPS on Doom 3. You can top of the line and pay out the nose, or you can get great quality at a decent price. Then again you can always flash the BIOS and upgrade yourself..
The Gigabyte X800Pro VIVO edition is supposed to come with all 16 pipes enabled already.
One thing that affected my buying decision is that regardless of which you pick, you are getting good quality, but you are also getting something that in 4-6 months is so passe, by then it will be PCI-E etc.

I can vouch for that, I replaced a Raidmax PSU that broke with an Antec.

Exzor,
I'm confused the link you posted is to the 3200XLPT but you said it was PC2700. Anyway the link you posted is the memory I would buy, the link Capper posted is also the same except the heat spreader on the Capper's link is black vs. silver on the link you posted. Twinx1024-3200XL and Twinx1024-3200XLPT are the same RAM with different colored heat spreaders. The TWINX means that it is a matched memory pair designed for Dual channel boards, the 1024 is the total amount of ram in Mega Bites, the 3200 represents the clock speed and the XL represents the series of RAm. Corsair has four levels in their XMS brand with XL being the highest. Plain XMS (i.e. no letter) C2 , LL, and XL.

About the power supply, that really sucks I loved how the Raidmax looks, but when it comes down to it I'm more interested in performance, I'm going to get some cold cathodes anyway:

Heres the Antec I chose, 480w will be enough right? (still has blue leds woo):

If theres a certain model you guys would recommend just tell me :)

I'm using the 480 watt TrueBlu right now and I have another one that's going in a friends computer. You can't go wrong with an Antec

from what I saw the Raidmax only has one fan anyway and two fans is almost a must to deal with temps both in the system as a whole and the PSU.

Sorry if I gave you info about part #'s you already knew but better to tell you things you already know than to assume you know something you don't. Assumtions about components, as we all know, cost $$$.

Thats why I came to this forum, to get advice... thats the best thing to do especially when people know what they are talking about because they actually have or have tested the things they are talking about. I understand computers and how they are put together and everything... it's just certain reviews about certain hardware not working with each other because of incompatibilities and stuff, I want to make sure everything is perfect. This is my first computer I'm going to build, the last one I had PC Solutions (pc store) put it together. That was three years ago, I wish I would've built it myself, I probably could've saved a lot of money... but I thought setting up the bios was difficult. Then I found out afterwards it wasn't. :?

We all, I think, bought a PC at some point and then learned we could get a lot better PC for the money if we did it ourselves. Good luck and let us know how it works out.

the thermaltake "pure power" power supplies have been very good to us, in price as well as quality.

does the 754 use registered ram like the 940 ?

Wcoffey,

Welcome to the Forums! Good to have you in here!

I agree Thermaltake does make some pretty good PSU's. You say "very good to us", do you work for an IT company?

The A64 754-pin/939-pin platforms use regular 184-pin DDR1 memory that is unbuffered. It is only the 940-pin platforms that require 184-pin DDR1 memory that is registered, with the option of adding ECC support if needed.

My comp will support duel memory right? I was looking at the motherboard and it has 3 slots, but there is no space inbetween them. Also is that the only thing that has to support duel memory, what about the processor?

The Socket 754 Platform only supports single channel memory. (3 banks available for a total combined memory max of 3GB on the K8N-E Deluxe)

That is one of the "bonus" features of the Socket 939 Platforms, but dual channel memory will boost overall performance roughly ~5% overall. Is the extra money on a 939 motherboard/cpu worth the extra cost? Only you can answer that question, look at the benchmarks I linked.. Still shows the 3400+ beating the dual channel 3500+!!!!
