USB TV Card for Linux

Post by kenc51 »

All,
I need your advise. I have a good friend in work who won't touch M$ (do you blame him?)

He's a die-hard *NIX user (Debian)

Can anyone here suggest a USB TV Card which has support for Linux.
It needs to be able to record in good quality.

Pref. he would prefer to be able to stream the video via his LAN or WiFi connection too, but this isn't essential.

Your helps is as always appreciated.

Yep, I have that running on my PCI card.....the problem is not basic support for watching but he needs to be able to record in good quality......
most usb cards that I know of don't have hardware encoding and or don't encode Divx well.

Thanx anyway
Anymore suggestions welcome

BTW he's reading this thread from here in work..............Ferenc -> don't be shy, join our forums and say hello :drinkers:

Well Hello everyone.

Thanks Ken, you explained what I'm looking for pretty good. :) Just as a side note to your first post - I'm using a laptop so I thought it would be really useful if I could stream the data via USB, lan or maybe even wifi.

If you're a GNU/Linux user, have a laptop and if you came across this problem before please reply. Your help will be well appreciated.
