Hi People,
First of all, thanks to the staff for the power supply review,
(8-way SLI and Crossfire Power Supply (PSU) Roundup - Wed, Jun 21, 2006)
.... it has helped me decide on a power supply to purchase.
I am thinking of purchasing OCZ's GameXStream 700W.
I want to use two XFX GeForce 7950 GX2 in SLI and the instructions say that for two in SLI there should be a minimum 650W PSU with 12v current rating of 34A.
I just wondered if someone could help me determine if this PSU meets or exceeds the 12v current rating of 34A requirement.
Does this mean 34A on a 12v rail?
I am unable to determine this from the pic of the PSU spec plate:
... it shows a max current output of 36A under +3.3v but it seems it has four 12v rails but under those it says 18v?
As you can see I do not fully understand how it all works and any help would be gratefully received.
Cheers,
Chris.

The OCZ 700W GameXstream has four 12v rails (+12V1(18A), +12V2(18A), +12V3(18A), +12V4(18A)) with each one having an 18A rating and a total Max Wattage rating of 525W. Taking 525W divided by 12 we are left with 43.75Amps across the +12V rails. So the GameXstream 700W PSU has 43.75Amps across the +12V rail. I've used this PSU in my Personal system since the article was posted and it's done fine for me with my Intel Core 2 Duo system.
To answer your question this power supply exceeds the requirement for a pair of 7950 GX2. In closing keep in mind that the NVIDIA G80 is rumored to be a power house and comes out in less than a month.
oh and welcome to the forums... hope you stick around.

Re: Power Supply Review and a question.
The GX2 doesn't draw near the power of 2 separate cards so the requirements aren't as steep. See here:takeiteasy wrote: I am thinking of purchasing OCZ's GameXStream 700W.

Hi all,
Thanks for the replies, just to note, I already have a GX2 and was thinking of getting another to SLI with rather than getting a new, different, card altogether.
A new motherboard, chip and DDR2 memory will be next to look at as time permits, which I don't seem to have much of these days
  ....
Thanks for the help, I shall go ahead with the purchase of the OCZ GameXStream 700W now I think!
Many Thanks!
Cheers,
Chris.
