Need a little help deleting a file.

ok, so I saved an attachment to my desktop, outlook express saved the file and onther file named the same but with out the file exetension.

I tried to delete them, I can delet the one with the extension, but the one with out it tells me "can not delete file: can not read from source file or disk" so I go to a dos window and low and behold theres nothing there.

now anywhere I look through a windows browser I can see this file. I look at it with anything else it doesn't exist.

Have you rebooted? Sometimes windows won't let go of a file or what it thinks is a file. I think you can force delete something by holding SHIFT when you drag it in the trash but it's been a long time since I've had to do that so I might be mistaken.

yeah I have rebooted, I'll try the SHIFT+drag .... nope didn't work.

Tried deleting it from safe mode?

Hit F8 at boot to get the safe mode option up.

Have you tried to "rename" the file with a recognizable extension? I've had that same problem before and just renamed it by adding .doc to the end of it and deleted it. Not to say that my glitch is your glitch, but ya' never know.

no go on the rename, same error can't read source file or disk...

I'll try the safe mode thing in the morning.

that did it, thank you. It said that there was not a lock on the file but asked me what I wanted to do with it and the program gives you a list, picked delete and voila it was gone.

it was getting on my nerves that I couldn't delete that... Oh, safe mode didnt work either.

Fixed voila for the spelling police
