I'll take that as a no... just had a Beta BIOS that our editor Jason Petermann helped make during his review of the board and was going to let others try it out. :)

Yes, if anyone else out there is using this board, the new bios is a must if you are using an Opteron and/or if you plan on taking the HTT over 279. This bios has helped get me excited about this new board from ABIT!

Just call the upcoming ABIT BIOS version AN832_11 the Jason Petermann Bios.

Jason was testing the board using an Opteron processor and found a bug that all the other sites and ABIT missed during their development. Now the ABIT AN8 32X motherboard will support Opteron processors and overclock above 280MHz unlike all the previous beta and public BIOS.

an8-32x beta bios

Post by oaktown »

I have a an8-32x and am using an opteron 165. I've hit the 280 mhz barrier and am wondering if anyone can tell me where to get a copy of the beta bios. I've heard abit will be releasing an updated bios soon but who wants to wait?
Thanks

Well, I've finally had a chance to work with the beta bios for the an8-32x so kindly given to me by Apoptosis.
First my system abit an8-32x motherboard /gigabyte 3d1-xl video card/ 500w antec smartpower/ 1gig mushkin xp ddr550 / opteron 165.
When I first set up the system I couldn't get it to post with the clock past 280.
With the new bios it will post, however, the bummer is my cpu isn't happy and I have to raise the voltages way high. I was able to post @295 so the bios definitely made a difference.
Anyway my system seems to work best at 9x270. Low voltage/ low temps.
1.4v/38c memory set 1/1 2.5 4 4 8 2t
I'll have to "suffer" with only a 33% overclock for now.
Oh yeah, 4hrs prime stable/ 6 passes memtest.
Cheers

Her's an update. I tried everything I could to get a better overclock with the an8 32x. With this board I tried 3 different bios. Tried everything I could think of but couldn't get stable past htt 279. I had to start upping voltage at around 250.
I've since put the same opteron in a kn8 ultra and have it running stable at 325x9 @ 1.45v. A few lucky souls have gotten decent overclocks with this board but most I've seen still struggle. I'm sure it will get worked out eventually.

My AN8 32X is at 285 with my Opty 165 and pretty much stuck there . However this just maybe a limit of my 165 chip , as I purchased the Opty when they were first released .

BUT....

I'd be happy to try the Jason Petermann bios too .... :)

I am an Abit AN8 32X user. Although I haven't tried overclocking it yet and I don't have an Opteron.

I'm running one based on this sites reviews of it earlier this year. I'm using a San Deigo core Athlon 64 3700+. Do you think it would work for me?

If the RAM doesn't work in slots 1 and 2 but works in 3 and 4 it sounds like a defective board. I'm assuming you have the latest BIOS release - Version 13.

Does the newest official BIOS from Abit solve this problem? The newest one was released from Abit on 7/3/06.

Either way, can I get the beta bios for the AN8 32x? Thanks!

One set of LED lights died on this board for me. Pretty lame.
