My arctic Cooler fan went poop on me... :(

Post by bigblockmatt »

I was trying to play some BF2 the other day and it kept freezing on me saying my video card (X850 pro flashed to xt/pe) was over heating... I was thinking WHAT THE HECK IS GOING ON!!! i loaded up ATItool and sure enough the temps were VERY HIGH. i tell the thing to run the fan at full speed... no help. so i open up the case and take a look at the video card and sure enought the fan isnt spinning. I installed an Arctic Cooler silencer 5 back in february. i took out the card, blow some dust out or the card heatsink. stick it back in. still didnt work. i pulled it out again and unplugged the fan from the card, plugged it back in, then installed it again. then it started spinning. now it stopped spinning again!!

Anyone else have any problems with the fans on these products? seems pretty crappy to have a fan die on my in under a year!

I bought it from Side Winder Computers http://www.sidewindercomputers.com/index.html Ive bought several other product from then with no problems. THink i should just buy a new on or try and rma it or something? what you all think?

its a typical problem with the Arctic Cooler Silencer Series. One of the retailers who used to carry them, Jab-tech.com, great retailer btw, when asked by me why he didn't carry them he informed me that there was an exorbitant amount of RMAs with them, because the fan spindle shaft just break for no reason other than they are made cheaply. Sorry man, I hope you still have the stock fan, that you can slap on. And in the future I recommends something like the VF900 from Zalman if compatible

ya, i did... i wanted to get it here before thanksgiving... i cant play any vids with the dead fan. my temps are between 35 and 40 degrees. if i do anything video demanding, it gets way too hot. I wanted to be able to play some vids over my couple days break from work.

why you ask?

I could compare the VF 900 to what ever you have...

* Side note * is there a way to monitor the speed of the fan on my vid card. the only thing i see in ATItool is to tell it what % to run at, not what the actualy speed is. I also run Asus probe that monitors all my other temps and speed and such, could that be used to monitor the vid card as well?
