What to Do?

Post by dicecca112 »

I'm curious as to what you guys think.

Christmas is coming, and I'll be working again so I think its upgrade time.

But I don't know what.

I've got a list of options though

1. Pump - Currently using a CSP-Mag, good little pump, but its clicking lately
2. PSU - Using an old 600W Powerstream, green lite drives me nuts at night, but it has served me well. I'd change only for a Modular that was on par with the Powerstream
3. Upgrade video - I need something that can Play Oblivion Maxed out. Probably won't go NVIDIA, too hot, too much power, maybe somethign I can fold on, ie ATI?
4. Anything else you can suggest?

Get a Delphi/Laing DDC-1Plus pump for ~$50. They are rated for 50K hours and are VERY quiet! --> no more "clicking" (can never have too much power - see sig)
Have you thought about a bigger RAD? I've just ordered a Thermochill PA120.3 rad + shroud......should be here by the end of the week ;)

I'd stick with that PSU for now, mayby mod it and change the fan? Or even just disconnect the green LEDs?

How much cash are you putting aside for the upgrade?

I think the pump could be related to the loop just needing a good cleaning. i can't remember if I put anything in it to kill growth, I believe it was just Distilled Water.

Power yeah, power definetly looks like an upgrade, looking at Seasonic M12. I would like something modular because my case is terrible, cords everywhere

I'm thinking like 600$ for some upgrading

Depending on what I buy I'll be selling the old items

My thoughts were sell the 7900gt and get a x1950xtx (myabe get 100-150 for the gt)
Sell the 600W and get something else (maybe get 100$ or less)

I think the rads fine, under normal ambients i'm at 3.4 with 46/48 load temps. Which is fine by me. The yates and my rad do fine

I liked the mag because it was small.

well I'm looking at this one. Seems like the best after looking at JonnyGuru and what not

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6817256009

opinions?

My system according to http://www.extreme.outervision.com/psucalculator.jsp

is drawing or will be 407w if I get a x1950xtx. I mean 200W left is nice, but I like having that extra there.

331W if I don't get the x1950xtx

and do you recommend any pumps from her that are quiet. I rather order from Jab, because the owner has always been great to me. When I order the stuff for this loop he sent me 10ft free of clearflex. Not to mention sending me various random goodies. Like when my pump wouldn't work. I sent it back, he kept me up to date, even called my cell to update me on the status, and to make sure things worked, he send me the 4 to 3pin adaptor they used to be sure it worked.

Looks like it could be PSU, Graphics and Pump.

The definite is the pump. I don't like the clicking sound that my MAG all of a sudden developed. That and it froze up at one point on Thursday. Once finals are over next week, and I'm home, I'm gonna drain and dismantle the loop, clean everything out and see what happens.

The pump I've settled on is this one
http://www.petrastechshop.com/laddcwpeddto.html

9W in case your wondering.

Total would be

PSU ~200$ (Unless someone can find me a quiet modular PSU that is less than the Seasonic M12 700W)
Video ~400$ (x1950xtx, for folding of course)
Pump ~100$ (See above link)

Frankly I don't expect better temps I just want quiet, I'm only cooling a Conroe Here.

I think I could get away with a 600W Seasonic M12, but haven't decided I like the efficiency and lack of ripple at Johnny Guru's site

The 9W is, BUT you need to be 1/2" from it to hear the 18W
Just use something to dampen the vibrations in your case.......a piece of foam or something.

Trust me....I'm into low noise computing too. The DCC-1 + is by far the better pump IMO.

well here's the deal. I'm really into oblivion lately, but I hate the stuttering. I just want something that can make all the settings on 1024*768 I don't need it to make at my LCD's native of 1280*1024. My 7900gt can't do that. I opted for the x1950xtx because well it was the best and should be able to do that. But if a card be had for less, then I'd go for that. No Crossfire, P5B-E Doesn't have it and I think its a useless gimmick.

Can you wait ~6 to 12 weeks? ATI will have their new card out then. The X1950XTX will drop in price alot then! Over Christmas your prolly not going to be gaming much either......@ least for me, family and stuff(ing) gets in the way ;) Then you have Jan -> back to school........around this time we will see leaked benchmark scores etc. Then the new card will be out. If you think about it, it's not too long to wait IMO.
Spend some of the cash saved on new years eve....or ehh gifts for the family etc  :)

well lets put it this way, I usually keep a card for at least two generations after. I kept my x700pro through the x800 generation and the X1K generation.

The card is gonna mainly for folding if I can get an added bump on Oblivion, I'll take it. Right now it looks like an x1950xt with 256mb of mem or an x1950pro with 512

Get the 512MB version........especially since your keeping it for a while and you can be sure newer games will love it!!
basically, 512mb = longevity.
256mb = soon to be min spec

well I'm waiting on a response from the FAH guru over at OCforums, regarding an x1950xt vs x1950pro. I've scoured FAH forums and got nothing. The question was asked but not really answered.

It would be cool to try an x1950 pro I think with teh 512 because they use native crossfire also so for the price of the x1950xtx you could try the better version of crossfire probably or just save you some money on one thourgh the xtx is better card adn even with 2 pros you get about the same performance at least withte 256mb versions.
