9700 replacement fan

Post by bubba »

ok, here is the deal, right smack in middle of Need for Speed carbon My machine locks. annoyed I start looking into why.

Well the fan croaked, looks easy enough to replace I just want to make sure I have the right one.

In using the lovely search button I have found a link in an old thread to these

http://www.buyextras.com/dc12vvgahefa.html

specifically http://www.buyextras.com/ev45dc12vvga.html

as I'm a couple of weeks away from getting my new mobo to use my PCIe 6600 card I have I want to fix up the 9700 and once I upgrade it will go back to the family parts pool I got it from. So I want want ever fan I put on it to be worth putting on.

was also looking at these

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6835119079

I figure the Zalman is a little overkill for a stock 9700, but still on the maybe list.

Edit:
Duh, ATI part number for the fan is 7120003000, the fan is square and about the size of a game boy cartridge

dude i have the older version of this one

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6835118216

mine is just aluminum. I used the extra mounts to mount a 80mm casefan to the side to force air through the fins. I have a 9800 pro 128 flashed to a 9800 xt 128 and never had any issues with it. Played HL2 with no problem!! Now that computer has become a server.

I added the fan about 3 days after i installed it because when the card started to get hot i got framerate drop and choppiness. The fan took care of that.

But if you are replacing the pc soon then just get the 1st one you listed.
EVGA nForce 680i SLI board, XFX GeForce 7950GT@641/1244, Corsair XMS2 2GB DDR2 800 TWIN2X2048-6400C4 (4-4-4-12) 2.1v, Core 2 Duo E6400 (3.0ghz) at 56c max stock cooling, 2 Seagate Barracuda sata 3.0gb 320gb not raid yet and 550watts

old board at 3.2 stock videocard settings / new board at 3.0 oc video card / 3.2 & oc video card
