ok, here is the deal, right smack in middle of Need for Speed carbon My machine locks. annoyed I start looking into why.
Well the fan croaked, looks easy enough to replace I just want to make sure I have the right one.

as I'm a couple of weeks away from getting my new mobo to use my PCIe 6600 card I have I want to fix up the 9700 and once I upgrade it will go back to the family parts pool I got it from. So I want want ever fan I put on it to be worth putting on.

Duh, ATI part number for the fan is 7120003000, the fan is square and about the size of a game boy cartridge

mine is just aluminum. I used the extra mounts to mount a 80mm casefan to the side to force air through the fins. I have a 9800 pro 128 flashed to a 9800 xt 128 and never had any issues with it. Played HL2 with no problem!! Now that computer has become a server.
I added the fan about 3 days after i installed it because when the card started to get hot i got framerate drop and choppiness. The fan took care of that.
But if you are replacing the pc soon then just get the 1st one you listed.
