Is my Harddrive dieing on me??
I have been having some problems recently with my 2nd harddrive. today it stopped responding. I use it for storage (music, pictures, and other files).
I was listening to some music today on the comp and the music decided to stop. i was trying figure out why and my drive seemed to "disappear". it wasnt listed in my computer anymore... so i restarted. then it wouldnt start up. once it froze on the windows load screen, once it froze before windows loading, once it froze where you choose to boot in safe mode or regular etc.
so i unplugged the second drive, restarted, and it worked fine. so i turned off, plugged the drive back in and turned it back on. now it works fine. i dont understand.
I checked the event viewer and there is a lot of events. These events are repeated a bunch of times. here are some:
Source: Disk
Event ID: 51
"An error was detected on device \Device\Harddisk1\D during a paging operation."
Source: atapi
Event ID: 9
The device, \Device\Ide\IdePort3, did not respond within the timeout period.
Source: sr
Event ID: 1
The System Restore filter encountered the unexpected error '0xC0000185' while processing the file '~WRL0005.tmp' on the volume 'HarddiskVolume4'. It has stopped monitoring the volume.

ya, i am getting all the goodies off of it. I havent had it that long. (maybe year, maybe a little more). I got all the important stuff off last night. now i am just getting all my music. (though it is important, it is replaceable.) It is a Maxtor 6B250S0. what type of warranty they have for these?
Its a good thing have that extra SATA harddrive i won here a while back!!
Is it typical that the drive would work, then not then work then not... it did this a little bit a while back but i reformatted it and it worked since (up to a couple days ago.)

is there a way to get the serial # without looking at the drive itself?

Don't do that... a shotgun will just bounce stuff off and it will come back at you. A local car club guy got an AR-15 for X-Mas and about a week later shot himself in the head.... NO BS... He was using armor piercing rounds at a steel target 25 yards... To make a long story short it bounced back and hit him right above the eye and the bullet tumbled along his skull and ended up above his ear...bigblockmatt wrote:Well, that sucks...guess i have to get me a new one. any suggestions? ~250 gigs.Serial Number B60QBX6H

awww he took the after down... I asked him to put it back up...
Anywho if you shoot it be careful and do it from a safe distance. I've had stuff come back at me from 100 yards and by the time it hit my clothes it hardly hurt. Advice from a guy that does this.
