Long boot times randomly
Long boot times randomly
So I've only noticed it on two machines mine and my friends with xp x64 and amd 64 processor. only problem is I don't know if it is the problem or not. (ie feel free to move this topic to a different forum.) on random occasion windows will refuse to load. it will sit at the loading screen for hours unless I hit restart then it will boot in the normal short amount of time you'd expect.

Is this still at the BIOS screen or at the winxp load screen?
Have you tried running the almost safe mode bootup where it tells you what its loading as it loads it. Hit F8 and i think its one of those options. Trouble with it being a random problem, you'd have to select that option everytime you wanted to turn on untill it hung, which is tedious.

that reminds me get this program called bootvis http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=664
it will show you wait is taking a long time and will tweak your system to boot quicker

Had a problem upon bootup this morning myself. First time that has ever happened. Just got to the Windows Splash screen and it would not go any further. I did a windows repair and rebooted and it started up fine. I took Dragon Coolers advise and dl'ed Bootvis and ran it, we'll see how well it optimizes my bootup and hopefully eliminating any more start up problems.
Any other advise on tweaking, free dl's to optimize and such?
