Martha asks to do time now

Martha Stewart said today she has asked to start serving her five-month prison sentence now in order to put her "nightmare" behind her. Stewart said the decision was a hard but necessary one for her to get on with her life and her business. A federal judge had allowed her to stay out of prison until now as she appealed her conviction.

I'm not exactly into stocks and I don't know how the system works. Can someone explain to me, in layman's terms, what the big deal is? All I know is that she learned inside information and used it.

When trading stocks you are only alowed to use public information. When the company started to go under that Martha was invested in she was told by her stock broker to sell before a public anouncment was made as to the finachal status of the company. There for she did not loose any money and the people who bought the stock she sold were effectivly lied to as to the value of the stock.

I think thats a rough explanation, fill in if anyone else has more.
