Jeep of Fire

Post by Sporg »

OK, so Monday was an interesting day for me. It started about like any other Monday, left my security badge at home and spilled coffee on myself at some point during the morning. Around noon a co-worker asked if I was in parking garage H or K (hey, I made a H&K reference), I was in the middle of something else and said K. She then said that there was a fire in H - I didn't think much of it.

About 2 hours or so later I heated up some soup and grabbed a sandwich out of the fridge. On the way back to my desk I noticed some co-workers looking out of a window. I put my stuff down at my desk and went over to see. I suddenly had the sinking feeling that it was the garage I had parked in and that my vehicle would be affected. Sure enough, it was garage H, which is where I parked. The fire was out but you could see the scorching on the outside of the garage. It was right by where I parked that morning.

I went ahead and ate my soup and sandwich before heading down there. Yep, there was my vehicle with caution tape attached to the rear wiper, next to it was the empty shell of a Ford F-150. The entire driver's side of my vehicle will need painting, anything that was plastic melted.

What are the odds, 14 parking garages, 5 levels each and the vehicle that decides to catch itself on fire and generously share some warmth parked right next to me.

I still have not heard back if they are going to total it or not, but I hope they do. All I have to say... Mondays ROCK!!!

Wow, what a bummer. Tough break.....
Look on the bright side, it could be worse.
You wife could be planning on leaving you for your best friend and your mother could tell you she's been diagnosed with Cancer. Right about the time your 15 year old daughter tells you she's pregnant.

Now hopefully your problems don't seem so bad?
Just trying to help.....

I think the Ford F-150 caught on fire

Found On Road Dead fits that one :)

Mike

just think - you could have still been in the car when it happened! Hopefully the insurance will take care of the rest for you.

Oh, believe me, I know it could be much worse. I'm fine with it, just hate the waiting part to find out what is going to happen with it.

Something in the F150 caught fire while sitting there. The guy who owns it told me that it might have been a bad power steering module.

Back to what Topher said, I know what you are saying. I'm not feeling sorry for myself, just thought it was a good excuse to post something for the monthly contest.

I'm the guy who handles big problems in stride, it's the little things that I freak out about. Death, destruction, no problem... but drop a pencil or snag a shirt... better look out.

Oh well, cheers. :drinkers:

I know my problems aren't comparable to yours, but last semester I got three parking tickets, I got towed, and my favorite (and only) leather jacket got stolen.......all in a span of 10 days. Needless to say it sucked bigtime!!

Like Toph said, there are worse things that could happen!

I'm not feeling sorry for myself,
I hope you didn't take my post the wrong way, I wasn't trying to acuse you of self pity. Like you, I'm trying to meet my quota for the contest.

On a more humorous note, in regards to what Gamble said
I got three parking tickets
I used to work with a guy who owned a loft down in the city. They had a parking garage but the montly fee was very expensive. Most of the time, he just parked in the street next to a parking meter. He never bothered to feed the meters and was CONSTANTLY getting parking tickets. One month he had gotten something like 18 parking tickets. So I asked him, why don't you just pay the cost and park in the garage? His reply was pretty simple and made good sence. First off, the parking meters were directly in front of his apartment building, whereas the parking garage was across the street, crowded, dark, and crime infested. Secondly, even the month he had recieved the 18 parking tickets, the total cost of fines were STILL cheaper than the monthly fee for parking in the garage.

Just gotta love the city... Not....

I had applied and got a job with a piping company in down town STL many years ago. Well I was surprised when they told me part of my pay was a paid year to the parking garage that was a block away. Didn't think anything of it till I saw the cost of the pass.

Good Night Batman! That's some major damage indeed!

Those are some impressive pictures. :P

Question, how much damage was done to the front tire of the Jeep? Did the rubber on them hold up?

The front of the jeep wasn't too bad, I should get a new bumper, new headlight, and two new tires. While the tire didn't blow, it did get warped from the melting of the inner fender well.

Selfishly I was hoping that they would have totaled it out. But the damage isn't really that bad. I'm more worried about the smoke smell than anything else.
