Intel Releases D975XBX2 BIOS Update 2507

Post by Apoptosis »

The BIOS that Intel released today includes the Marvel HD LED and ECC fixes that have been talked about a bunch here on the forums of Legit Reviews. I spoke with the BIOS engineers and, with the urgency of our request, they utilized both of their BIOS Evaluation Labs (Oregon and Malaysia) to release the BIOS ahead of schedule. I was told it was going to launch Monday, but they actually got it out today thanks to Intel's semi automated process. I had hoped to give you a little notice before it was released, but on the up side the BIOS is out early and is available to download.

Intel D975XBX2 BIOS Update 2507

I'd like to thank Intel for releasing the "LR" BIOS update and listening to the community as a whole here on the LR forums. If you have any other problems that you feel need to be fixed please post them in this thread.

can anyone who flashed this bios and has usb enabled please post the irq-assignments (file->export) shown in msinfo32.exe? with previous versions i had irq-sharing with the pcie-graphics, so maybe something has changed here (as the changelog says something about a usb irq fix).

that's how my system looks like (with usb disabled):

Code: Select all

IRQ 0	Systemzeitgeber	OK
IRQ 1	Standardtastatur (101/102 Tasten) oder Microsoft Natural Keyboard (PS/2)	OK
IRQ 4	Kommunikationsanschluss (COM1)	OK
IRQ 8	System CMOS/Echtzeituhr	OK
IRQ 9	Microsoft ACPI-konformes System	OK
IRQ 11	Intel(R) 82801G (ICH7 Family) SMBus Controller - 27DA	OK
IRQ 12	Microsoft PS/2-Maus	OK
IRQ 13	Numerischer Coprozessor	OK
IRQ 16	Intel(R) 975X PCI Express Root Port - 277D	OK
IRQ 16	NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GS	OK
IRQ 16	Intel(R) 82801GR/GH/GHM (ICH7 Family) PCI Express Root Port - 27E2	OK
IRQ 17	Intel(R) 82801G (ICH7 Family) PCI Express Root Port - 27D0	OK
IRQ 17	Intel(R) PRO/1000 PL Network Connection	OK
IRQ 19	Intel(R) 82801GR/GH SATA AHCI Controller	OK
IRQ 21	RME HDSP 9632	OK

just interested to see if they changed something. thank you!

New BIOS

Post by MrStumpy »

Thank them for me too. I downloaded and installed it earlier today before I started my Overclocking effort.

I have seen no problems yet.
Thanks

Dandruff-

Here are my IRQ settings from System Information. IRQs 80 - 190 say "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant System". I'm using the default BIOS settings except that I disabled the Marvell SATA (I currently have Core Multiplexing disabled and I'm running at 10x300MHz, but I don't think those 2 will affect the IRQs). I've got USB keyboard and mouse.

Sean
IRQ 0 System timer OK
IRQ 4 Communications Port (COM1) OK
IRQ 6 Standard floppy disk controller OK
IRQ 8 System CMOS/real time clock OK
IRQ 11 Intel(R) 82801G (ICH7 Family) SMBus Controller - 27DA OK
IRQ 13 Numeric data processor OK

Oh my gosh  What happened on your system?

I always thought IRQ 23 is the highest with APIC!?

Why do you get IRQ 80, 190, 4294967293 & 4294967294?

Looks like I won't enable USB for now :) (don't need it anyway) ...

BIOS 2663 still has this delay/hang (before Windows will start) when using manually drive configuration!

The Intel engineers shall test the following setup to reproduce this issue:

- Windows XP SP2 installed on a SATA harddisk (connected to SATA port 0)
- a SATA DVD-ROM (connected to SATA port 1)
- a Floppy drive
- a PS/2 keyboard

and the following BIOS-settings:

Advanced / Peripheral Configuration
- Parallel Port Enabled
- Mode ECP
- Audio disabled
- On-board LAN Enabled
- Secondary SATA Controller Disabled
- Onboard 1394 Disabled

Advanced / Drive Configuration
- Use Automatic Mode Disabled
- Use Serial ATA Enabled
- ATA/IDE Mode Native
- Configure SATA as AHCI
- Primary Channel Disabled

Advanced / Floppy Configuration
- Diskette Controller Disabled

Advanced / USB Configuration
- USB Ports Disabled

Boot
- Boot Menu Type Normal
- Hard Drive Order Hardisk
- Boot to Optical Devices Disabled
- Boot to Removal Devices Disabled
- Boot to Network Disabled

If they will do EXACTLY this, they will get the post-code "94" and a delay/hang before Windows will be able to start!

Then they shall change the following BIOS-setting to

Advanced / Floppy Configuration
- Diskette Controller Enabled

Now they will get "BA" displayed instead of "94". And they will also get the same delay/hang (before Windows will start) in this case!

These delays/hangs don't occur with automatic drive configuration, so this must be a bug in their BIOS.

Additionally it would be nice if they could use a PS/2 mouse in these tests to see if the mouse will still work after Windows shutdown (power down the machine and then restart)!

Many thanks!

BIOS 2507 and IRQs

Post by daschmidt »

Same here installed yesterday all is very good. As for the IRQs, my guess is that they are 2's complements. (ie. negative numbers F's in the high bits) If you convert to hex invert and add 1, you should get the real vector.

HDD LED is indeed fixed, but I still have a keyboard problem ...
I'm using a Microsoft wireless desktop elite set (so a PS/2 keyboard), and the first time my computer boots, my keyboard works fine until the "BA" page, then it's not detected under windows x64 ...
If i reboot, it works just fine.

I sent several mails to Intel, which btw are really fast to answer (compared to say ... gigabyte, whom i sent an email 2 weeks ago, and still no answer ...).
So far they told me to :
1 - unplug everything (in fact, get the MB out of the box, to chekc if it's not kind of a short circuit problem)
2 - try another KB (haven't tried it yet)
3 - remove the battery

Nothing seems to work (i didn't try another keyboard, OK), and my guess is that it's not the first one, since the KB works fine until after the bios post. It's more likely something that would be resolved with another bios i think, but ...

i don't know, i don't have a classic XP to try :/

but you've made me think : at first, when installing x64 on my raid5, pressing F6 key didn't work, after a reboot, it did, so i wonder if that could be a problem with windows x64

Apoptosis- any inside info on the release of a new Bad Axe 2 BIOS? Intel has confirmed via email (on 1/24) that they have reproduced the QX6700 / Vista 64-bit BSOD on versions newer than 2333, but didn't give an ETA on the fix ("a new BIOS version will be released shortly").

Thanks-

@Apoptosis:

BIOS 2507 still shows incorrect SPD values.

The board runs at 5-5-5-16 (in automatic configuration, timings checked with CPU-Z), but it shows 5-5-5-15 as SPD!?

I've checked/tested it with CPU-Z and Typhoon Burner. Both read 5-5-5-16 from the SPD modules. But why does the BIOS reads/displays 5-5-5-15 as SPD (bottom of the page in the BIOS), but actually uses the correct 5-5-5-16 settings?

Can you foward this to the Intel guys again!? I tought this was already fixed, but i'v mixed it up again. So this is still an issue (although only regarding the displayed SPD settings).

I am having PS2 Keyboard issues (with bios 2507) as well (Fujitsu-siemens KBPC-PS2). It sometimes won't work when reaching Windows XP Pro (32bit edition) login. Rebooting mostly fixes it, but once it took two reboots.

In the bios error log, there also is a "Keyboard not found (12)". This 12 times happened within my 2 days of having this mainboard. And this keyboard is working just fine on 5 other computers.
