Very Frustrated with Processor - Please help

Post by hexeis »

So I took my E6700(ES) out to test another E6700(ES) and since both are now showing up with smaller multipliers.

The multiplier is 6 instead of 10. Even with the processor that worked I can't get it back to 2.66Ghz (multiplier by 10). But it's weird.

CPU-Z tells me 1.6Ghz while Windows "My Computer" properties tell me 2.66Ghz.

Does anyone know what's going on?

Actually not really. I'm still at 1.6Ghz. I disabled C1E from the BIOS, what is C1E anyway?

Your CPU is throttling down to save power and give off less heat since you aren't doing anything processor intensive. Start something that really works the processor and CPU-z will show that the speed is 2.667GHz. Previous versions of CPU-z (1.37 and 1.38 ) didn't show when SpeedStep was actually working. I'm glad that they brought it back personally.

If for some reason it doesn't turn it off, change your power scheme to something thats not like "portable/laptop", say to "always on", that should do it too (independent of BIOS settings if i remmber correctly).

Why would you want an outdated copy of CPU-Z?? Google is your best bet.

1,600mhz is the speed all Core 2 Duo chips default to when Speedstep is active. C1E is an enhanced halt state for the processor, and is is a "deep" sleep state used to conserve power when underclocked.

DMB2000uk had it right, simply changing your Windows power schemes should make it go away. Right click your desktop -> properties -> Screen Saver tab -> "Power" button. Under "Power Schemes" select either "Always On" or "Max Performance". Save and close the windows out, and and that should do the trick.
