Troubles picking a motherboard for Core 2 duo

Post by dwarefy »

Hey I'm new on this forum and after having bad answers from french forums I decided to try the english ones :P

So forgive me if my level of english isnt as good as what you can see normally but I'll try to be good.

I'm hesitating between 3 mobos wich are

Asus P5B Deluxe : Bundle seems quite interesting but I've read some audio problems, maybe it was on old version and now all is fixed, that I dunno

Gigabyte DS3 (forgot the complete name): Way more affordable than the P5b deluxe. The bundle seems straight and I read good reviews

MSI 965P Platinium: Same thoughts as Gigabyte's one :P

The price goes that way:

Asus 222$ CAN
Gigabyte 169$ CAN
MSI 173$ CAN

Thanks you

:P

Overclocking wise the Asus and Gigabyte would be best. I'm personally partial to ASUS, but Gigabyte OCs just as well. If you get the Gigabyte board be warry, that board does not like Micron D9xxx Ram. It will not boot

Also what worth the MSI 965P platinium

'cause the bundle seems PRETTY interesting (usb bracket, round cable)

Equal as the DS3?

And I know there is 2 DS3 (rev 1 and 2) which one is better (I think latest loose a PCI port for a pci express one)

Personnaly I went Asus.
I got myself a Asus Commando.
I do know for a fact that the P5B is a pretty crazy overclocker.
I didnt' try the gigabit one.
I would go for Asus or Gigabit.
MSI used to be good but I don't think much of the now.
The only board I had from MSI was an old board that was supposed to support AGP x8 back in the days and it never actually did :p
If you have the money get yourself a Commando board.
I have my Pentium D 805 2.66Ghz to 4.0Ghz right now.
Very nice board too.

Micron is a chip manifacturer.
They usualy make the memory chips on ram sticks.
D9s are my favorite.

I have to agree this motherboard seems REALLY cool but I find it too expensive :S

If I want this card I'll need to change my CPU for a 6400 even a 6300 (I have a budget for my next config)

I need motherboards as good as the p5b deluxe

But no one answered me about the audio problem I've read about

I can personally recommend Gigabyte DS3/4.
P5B seems to be much more popular though...

When I speak about the P5b its the deluxe version right.

Largon you have the DS3?

I heard there is 3 revisions, the latest is the best no?

They've fixed most problems with D9 memory w/ the latest DS3 bios. People are not having problems hitting 500Mhz FSB with their D9s.

Thanks

A other question

Are SATA optical drives faster than IDE one's?

And can I plug a front firewire on it? (cable from the case)
