rumors about new G80 models

Post by atlr »

Here is a convenient chart of G80 rumors.

http://www.ocworkbench.com/2007/article ... rds/g1.htm

If I could stretch my budget to $400 and had to make a choice today, I would get the XFX XXX 8800GTS 640MB.

If one could wait and see if this list is true, I might get the the 512MB 8900GS.

I look forward to benchmarks that show the degree of difference that memory bus widths make. In this case 320-bit versus 256-bit.

where does OCW get their stuff? They had a chart similar to this regarding the X2K series releases.

The 8900s would be G81/G82 wouldn't they?

I was very close to getting a 8800GTS, but after seeing this, I think I might way a couple more months. I'm interested in seeing how the 8900GT compares to the 8800GTS since they're the same price.

Nice, and I was afraid 8900 wouldn't be able to counter the X2800XTX when I first saw the R600 specs. Might need to get 1kW power supply for these things tho :/

A 1kW PSU is probably overkill unless you're going SLI/Crossfire. Anything at least 550W and above should do the trick.

These new cards coming out are unbelievable, I just got my 7900GT half a year ago and now I'm going to have to upgrade again...

The graphics industry is changing so rapidly that those 8800 or 8900 will also be obsoleted some day. Then people will laugh if they hear that you have an 8800 or 8900 coz they will then use the DX 20 & the Geforce 16800 or 16900 GTX maybe ?( just like they laugh at my Geforce 6200 now). It'll never be possible to cope up with the latest technologies. You'll always fall short behind.

You're forgetting about watercooling (which you will probably need with a monster like that in your PC) and overclocking, the numbers add up rather quickly. Besides, it's always a good idea to get a PSU with a bit extra power (you never know what else you might need to put inside), and probably in half a year or so you will need to go SLI anyway seeing how fast the graphics cards are becoming more powerful lately.

I heard from my birdies here in Holland that that tabel was a fake one, the real lineup will be different.

Sure thing is that nVidia is going to 80nm soon :)
Not anymore proud owner of a ATi Radeon X800XL ;)
