also found if I turn off my monitor I can't get back the signal sometimes. Anyone have an idea how to fix this problem? I assume they are all the same problem in the end.

I had something similar happen with my wife's computer. I ended up recovering to a previous restore point and everything has been fine since.

The only thing that changed on the box was that IE 7.0 had downloaded and installed itself. I don't know how many times now that it's tried to do it (even though I set it not to!)

Anyway, the Last Known Good did not work, that's why I went with a restore point instead.

Just a thought, good luck :ANAL:

Just a thought, if apm is buggered up in the BIOS??? I've seen some weird issues when that happens.

advanced power management... I once had a customer's machine (ATX power supply) that on shutdown would go to a screen that said "It is now safe to turn off your computer", just like on older Pentiums with an AT power supply. Power management wan enabled and looked OK in the operating system (XP) but was disabled in the BIOS. Once I re-enabled it in the BIOS, it shut down normally. Good luck, hope this helps....

mmmmm..... yeah, maybe uninstall then reinstall the ATI driver, if it's possible, do an advanced or custom setup and watch for options relaten to sleep, hibernate, etc???

I did use a different ati driver than before and a new overclocking program. So those are the only real differences. Hope this helps spur new ideas too. I still et responses from windows but the monitor doesn't get the signal back. I may try to see if I can get it to shutdown blind and if so then I'll know I can still use windows. I can turn on and off numlock and I can press keys enough to get a ding. Its not the end of the world but I'd like it to work as intended.

One other thought, can you get into safe mode ok? If so, what happens? Are the reactions the same?

well I think I've figured out the problem now and am not sure how to fix it. Its my monitor I'm about 80% sure. Since when i just turned it off I couldn't get back the signal. So It has a problem with picking it up again until the computer restarts. Any ideas on how to fix that?

Does the monitor read "signal out of range""unspported output" or something of that sort?

It's the video card/driver/settings.
somewhere (properties?/ATI control panel?) there should a
"allow this......" check box (should be related to power settings, I think)

well I never changed anything and it worked find before, I'll just leave it for now and when I get some time over spring break I'll do some real trouble shooting. I just disabled sleep mode. and all is fixed. oh and I have to turn on the monitor first when turning on the computer or quickly after the power button is pressed so it will catch the signal originally.

Plugged this monitor into a friends computer at a LAN and of course it worked normally for him so I am starting to think it's a driver issue keeping it from receiving signal once it powers down. so I think i'll try running an older version of the catalyst. since I did run a newer version than previously. I'll revert to a 6 series catalyst. Going to see if it helps. well if I can get all of the driver fully removed.

Definitely a driver issue. I uninstalled 'all ati related products' from my computer and restarted. the windows driver works fine to resume from sleep/hibernate/turning off my monitor. now i'll try an older version of the driver starting at 6.3 and see how it works. Any Ideas on a reccomended SOLID release for the Catalyist for the x800 series? or Anyone know when the last time they were fixing stuff for that series was implemented in the drivers?
