XM and Sirius Merger
I've been listening to XM for about 4.5 years now. This has been talked about in the past and I'll be suprised if they actually do merge.
I would never die for my beliefs because I might be wrong.

I heard this last night on the national news... Interesting to say the least... I figured back in 2003 that XM would buy out Sirius, but man how things change.
My neighbor bout $30,000 in Sirius stock back in 2003 for like ~$0.70 cents a share and sold at damn near $8 a share...
That's roughly ~43,000 shares for $30,000 --- when he sold it at say ~$8 a share it was worth ~$343,000... I'll never forget it... I just got out of college and it was May 2003 and he told me to buy into it, but had no money at the time cause I was a college student... I'm happy for him though he was a lifer in the Navy and deserved it. Last I heard he's stationed in Japan and has picked another stock winner... lucky guy.

What kills me is that Sirius is around $1 Billion in debt... don't you usually blance your checkbook before buying? hehe
Yah, there have been a couple of stocks like that where I passed up an oportunity. UPS was like that, think it was a few years ago and their stock was in the tank, would have been a great time to buy.

One other thing missing in the poll is Internet Radio. That's one thing XM and Sirius are getting hammered by along with iPODs.

Note on XM / Sirius merger or whatever it is......
Both operate on different formats that are NOT compatible!
IMHO, sooner or later the consumer is the one who will lose if this merger is allowed to happen!
They will probably either force all customers to one of the formats or.....
They may even create a new format and all customers will have to buy some kind of new equipment.
BTW.... Neither XM or Sirius has ever made a profit(thats what I read earlier today)

In order to do this there are a bunch of people that they are going to have to sell the idea to. Satellite radio was only allowed back in 1997(or there abouts) on the condition that the two companies would never merge. Getting the green light for a monopoly is going to be tough for a company that make a person like Howard Stern the poster boy.
If this does happen, I think it's going to be funny to listen to Opie and Anthony kiss the butt of Howard. I've been listening to XM's O&A show for about two years now and all they have done is bash him.

tried Sirius for a couple years and dropped it for local HD
Sirius Likes:
1. the variety of music and spoken word shows
Sirius dislikes:
1. poor reception at my locations in Atlanta and New Orleans
2. music at 96 kbps just doesn't sound that good to me
I dropped Sirius and now listen to local High Definition FM broadcasts and podcasts via MP3 player using a $200 JVC HDR-1 in the car and a $150 Radio Shack Accurian HD Receiver in the house.

When at work, i stream free local stations.
I would never pay for radio. I will live with some commercials.

Yeah, I agree ya needed an internet radio option!
Used to subscribe to XM, only quit because $7 a month was just another expense and I don't drive enough to warrant it, and it was a royal pain to try and get poor reception at the house. At the time they still charged for their own internet radio, but now both XM/Sirius offer free internet streaming radio for most of their stations. For hour+ driving it was great though, especially for major international news.
Since then I've discovered XM has this nasty habit of reactivating my account + radio and sending me 3-month package bills "by mistake", I guess they were pretty desperate.
