acer 77c pain in _____

Post by stopthekilling77 »

ok i posted a while back about my horrible excuse for a monitor, a CRT acer 77c for which i can NOT find a reliable driver for. someone earlier had tried to send me a driver via my hotmail account but hotmail didnt like that very much and locked the file.

anyone out there have a driver for me??? each site i've gone to has spyware or viruses attached to their files, and i'm actually using my computer less because of this. oh and yes i've already scoured the Acer site and they should be kicked offline for their horrible "support". no backwards compatible drivers or monitor-specific drivers really.

i cannot wait until i have the money to buy a new monitor but that might be another month or two. can anyone help me?

Hey not sure if you solved the problem yet.

I don't typically install any driver for a monitor. In the past if windows did not detect the model number and offer appropriate max resolutions and refresh rates I would set the monitor in display properties to:
"Standard monitor types, Standard VGA 1024x768 or the 1280 one.

right click desktop, properties
advanced, monitor tab, properties again,
driver tab, update driver button, "connect to windows update search select NO", Install from a list, Don't Search then Next

Uncheck show compatible: Manufacturer at top is Standard monitor, on right side scroll down to something you like on the 17", try 1024. Accept a few times, then maybe go back in to change the refresh to something that doesn't melt faces. ie 75 to 100hz

Let us know what you work out.

Installing drivers for monitors on XP won't do anything. It will just take out resolutions that your monitor can't display from the selection menu. I don't know why you would need drivers, they don't really do anything besides that. At least I didn't notice anything.

I found .inf files for an Acer 77e kicking around the net. I'm sure you can find them for a 77c. They are for Windows 98, but they worked with XP. But as I already said, they do nothing in terms of visual improvements.
