Can the Corsair 620HX Power Supply Handle 8800 GTX SLI?

Post by Apoptosis »

There many rumors floating around about what it takes to run a pair of NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX video cards in SLI. Today we put one question to rest, will the Corsair 620HX power a pair of 8800 GTX video cards paired up in SLI with an overclocked and watercooled Kentsfield? With no power supply under 750W has been SLI Certified for 8800 GTX SLI will this 620W be able to handle it?

Great experiment.
My friend had a Mushkin 650 PSU running 8800GTX in SLI.

We want a powerdraw-measurement, I am eager to see how much power the whole system, and the cards will draw.

By the way, overclocking your PS, it IS possible but not recommendable, anyone wants to respond to this? (not that I am going to try :P )

Its always nice to see a good review. Would it be possible to get O-Scope readings at different points on the board and via the Molex?

Best wishes from OCForums! :)

INteresting I myself have a 650 mushkin PSU and was pondering about it.
Not that I have the money to buy myself 2 8800GTX but just a question I was asking myself.

According to newegg, the 520W handles SLI as well (check specifications): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6817139001

Although I don't know if it can run 2 8800s in SLI, maybe 7950.

Power use? I think I should call Dr. Emmett Brown.

I just hooked up the Power Angel and got some from the wall numbers running 3DMark2006.

At idle on the desktop this machine pulls a "mild" 356w.
Under a full CPU load 462w.
In the Canyon Valley test the system averaged in the 530w range and peaked at 549w!!
