Hey,

I just got a nautilus 500 and stuffed an 85cfm Panaflo 120mm fan in there and for all the extra CFM, it didnt cool that much. I'm thinking Radiator is the best upgrade!

Welcome to the forums and I did the same thing as you... changed the fan and didn't see a difference... Changed the radiator and saw one. Good luck and post back if you made a radiator change.

Personally, instead of replace the fan and radiator, why not add that new fan/radiator to the line ..... It means, you would have 2 radiators for your cooling system ?

I doubt the pump could handle the resistance added, and you would get as large of a performance jump as you would doing what the mentioned.

That and the fact two radiators wouldn't fit into the housing!

If anyone has a flatbed grinder, take 0.5mm~0.8mm off of the cold-plate base. You'll see even better performance. :)

Just make sure the base is full level before starting.

On another note

I have the nautilus 500 and i'd like to say that ive made this system quieter and perform alittle better by changing the grill and inserting a lower dba fan

i've used various fans and here are my results:

Silenx iXtrema Pro Case Fan 120MM X 38MM 1200RPM 60CFM 14DBA

low - idle temp 36-38C, load 45C very silent
high - idle temp 32-35C, load 42C somewhat.. silent

Silenx Ixtrema Pro Case Fan 120MM X 38MM 1200RPM 48CFM 11DBA

low - idle temp 37-39C, load 47C... a lot more silent, pump becomes louder than the fan
high - idle temp 33-35C, load 49C... almost as quiet as the first fan in low speed

(soon will be getting the GPU unit which is kinda expensive)

i'm running a p4 830 D processor, with just the CPU waterblock

Thank you for the information. I have been debating moving away from my trusted Ninja to this entry level water cooler. I would certainly modify the Nautilus with a different fan and perhaps radiator. Thanks to all who have contributed to this thread.

Well, to resurrect this thread from the "dead", I modded my Corsair Nautilus 500, also. I almost duplicated your process exactly except I used a Black Ice GT Stealth 120, in blue. :) (I hope this radiator was a good choice....couldn't find out much info about it, but it was a tad thicker than the BI Pro but not as tall as the Extreme. Seemed like a good compromise.....and I hope I didn't make a drastic mistake!!!

I haven't changed the fan but I removed the mesh cover and replaced it with a "normal" wire grille guard. Really opened the air flow up that way.

I have a question though........should I think about getting a higher CFM fan for my radiator? And are you blowing down through the radiator or sucking up and blowing out the top of the case? The second way is the stock arrangement.........I don't know if changing that will make a big difference in my cooling.

What I'm cooling..............I've got an Intel E4300 (yeah, I know, I'm cheap sometimes...) on an Intel 975BX2 (well, not cheap all the time!), 2 x 1GB Buffalo Firestix DDR2-800 RAM (Micron D9 IC's), Radeon X1950 Pro--256MB, Seagate 320GB SATA 7200.10 hard drive, pair of DVD+RW's in a CoolerMaster Mystique, powered by a Corsair HX620W.

I've got it OC'd to 3.1GHz (345 x 9, memory at a 1:1 ratio) ... not pushing it very much right now; it's only been up 2 weeks and I'm sort of enjoying using it for now ........ idle temp runs around 31C and highest load temps I've seen, playing COH, is upper 40's to low 50's w/fan on high......but my desk sits right next to a window and sometimes in the morning I get blasted with sun almost directly on the case.....but have no choice. I'm NOT putting the case on the floor!!!

Any suggestions as to better cooling for this puppy? Or would you do anything at all?

Doesn't it use the DCC1+ pump? They can run fine with my dual rad setup! I've ran mine with a dual 120mm and single 120mm rad just fine.
I only added the eheim 1046 to the loop because it was cheap and includes a reservoir.
Don't underestimate the power of those things :)

I removed the mesh on mine also, but I couldn't really tell a difference. I had my fan blowing and sucking and also could tell a difference. I'm sure a fan would help out a bit... i bought a couple to try out plus the stocker and went with the high flow one as it seemed to be the best.

I replaced the fan (110cfm) but it seems no help ... Probably will need to replace rad.

There's a point of diminishing returns when it comes to fan CFM vs cooling performance. The stock radiator is sort of small and after around 80 CFM you won't get a lot of improvment in performance. Same thig applies to going with a better radiator, a BI pro for example, your gains will only go so far before you hit a wall and going to a larger radiator (or more radiators) will be your only option.

Hi Guys

Back again

Does anyone know where I can get 1/4 bspt to 3/8th right angle barbs so I can get the lid back on the Nautilus?.
I ordered some from kool n quiet but got stiffed by them with no goods reciept and no refund(so off to trading standards officer)
and MCMaster say due to new trading laws in the U.S.A they cannot send any to the U.K.
Have had a look about on the net and still can't find any in the U.K
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

type G fittings should be easy to find in Europe as that is where they are used the most... tried all your local hardware and plumbing stores?
