I just finished putting my system together:
Gigabyte GA-965P-DQ6
E6600 2.4 ghz
ati x1900gt
1gig ddr2 ram 667mhz stick
400 total gig WD HD (2 hard drives)
450w PSU
The system comes on and starts to boot up. after being on for a couple mins the system shuts down. The one thing i think could be the prob is the atx power connection is for a 24 pin atx connection and my psu only offers a 20 pinner. Would this cause the system to react like that? Any other ideas on whats going on with the system?

Could be one of 2 things. Like FZ1 said, may need newer PS with 24 pin connector or could be CPU overheating. Is your CPU heatsink fan spinning?

It seems to be the cpu over heating, i was able to get into the bios and its showing as about 90c and rising. The cpu fan is spinning and ive got several other fans in the case. Any ideas on keeping it from over heating and lowering the temp?

Pull it!!!
Pull it out, clean the CPU and fan base with Alcohol(Pure) and re apply the thermal compound.
I'm sure you can get a step by step from someone here, but i just wipe it clean and spread Artic Silver with one of those fake (apply now!) plastic credit cards that come in the mail. http://www.arcticsilver.com/arctic_silv ... ctions.htm

one problem solved another one arises. I bought a ide controller card to add some extra ide connectors, problem is my system doesnt seem to be recognizing the dvd rom hooked up to it. Any suggestions on how to resolve this?its a pci ATA 13 raid card

IDE
Why not slave the DVD to the onboard ide connector and use the card for HD's?
Actually, i dont understand why you want to add more IDE devices, doesnt that MoBo have 6 or 8 SATA connectors?
if it has only one IDE connector that will give you 2 cd/dvd drive connections, and just hook up SATA drives to the onboard SATA connecters.
