Post by Apoptosis »

Before you spend your life savings on a new 8800 GTX video card, you may want to wait for Nvidia's new midrange 8600 cards, which are rumored to be out really soon. The 8600 GT, which will have a 350MHz core and come with 256MB of RAM, will go for about $150. Other cards like the high mid-range 8600 Ultra and the entry-level 8300 GS will go for $179 and $79 each.

* 8600 Ultra: 64 SP, core 500 MHz, memory 1400 MHz, 512 MB, 256-bit, $179
* 8600 GT: 48 SP, core 350 MHz, memory 1200 MHz, 256 MB, 128-bit, $149
* 8300 GT: 32 SP, core 500 MHz, memory 1200 MHz, 256 MB, 128-bit, $99
* 8300 GS: 24 SP, core 500 MHz, memory 1000 MHz, 256 MB, 128-bit, $79

It would be nice if it will also be support 3 cards set - as a lot of baords today have 3 PCIe slots
But from the picture i see only a single SLI connector... :(

It's strange coz whenever I see a chart like this, i notice that the prices are being decreased on every chart.When i ist saw that chart, the price of a 8600 GT was $199 on that chart.On the 2nd chart,the price got decreased to $179 & now $149.These card's prices r being decreased on every day on every chart even b4 releasing.But its good coz the customer will get benefit from it afterall.

Only thing i would worry about is the 256mb of memory, if you game.

I would LOVE to see benchmarks on them!!!

Mike

Should be released soon I guess...

That 8600 Ultra should be comparable to 7950GT.

I cant quite swallow the price tag on the 8800 yet, so this is a viable option for my new rig. :)

Anyone have an idea how the performance will compare to the higher end 7xxx series, like the 7900 gs?

Rumours I heard are that they will perform in the X1900XT range, maybe even better. :P

Latest 3dmark06 score I saw pegged the 8600GTS at ~5,500, but the CPU was only a A64 3000+ which got 900pts. A stock E6300 scores 1,650 CPU points, and would give the 8600GTS a ~6,000 score in 3dmark06. That makes it somewhere between a 7950GT and a full 7900GTX, despite the 128bit wide mem bus.

This makes sense, because the current midrange 7600GT ='s the 6800 Ultra of old...

Anyone have a release date for these?

I have read Nvidia is doing a MONSTER launch on the same day - tons of new stuff on the same day! - IS it true - no idea, but here is the link where i read it

http://www.ngohq.com/home.php?page=arti ... arc_id=130

Gonna be building a E6400 system next week and would LOVE to know if these cards will be out REAL soon or not - hate to put a crappy card in then throw all that money away to get a DX10!
