DRM, Vista, and mp3s

Post by hexeis »

Hi Folks, I just finished installing Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit. I have an uninstalled hard drive with all 60GB of mp3z, movies, videos, pictures, etc.

I've been told that if I install that hard drive Vista will DRM all the media and I will not be able to play those mp3z on another computer.

Is this true?

This article and comments I've read state Vista does not apply DRM where there is none.

All the previously backed up DVDs and music will play without restriction and will not be altered. Files with existing DRM protections will be enforced.

Hope this helps.

DRM is built in by the media "creator", Vista just provides the mechanisms to enforce it. Your un-DRMd media files should be fine. If in doubt back them up to another drive 1st.

DRM bites but with the latest agreement between EMI and iTunes we may finally see the ugly beast die it's well deserved death...

That's right! I'm running Vista also (dual-booting) and have been ripping and burning movies, downloading mp3s just as before and can assure you that you have nothing to worry about
