D975XBX2 slow internet performance with linux
I know this sounds crazy, but if I use linux or other non-windows operating systems, my internet connection seems very slow. I even tried using a pci nic card and it was still just as slow. However, windows is blazing fast (xp and vista). It seems like it is having problems switching to different sites the most. Once I have a certain site loaded in the browser, the speed is normal. But if any external sites are called on, the page takes forever to load. I have tried different distos of linux and many different web browsers. What could be causing this?
Perhaps it's a DNS problem? What does your resolv.conf file look like? Are you using the same name servers as when you're running Windows? Do a few nslookup commands and see if that might be the issue.
How do ping times compare between the two OSes?
How do speed tests compare between the two OSes, e.g. http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/ ?
What type connection do you have (DSL, cable modem, ...)?
Does 'dmesg' show anything pertinent?
Does 'ifconfig' show any errors?
What Linux distro are you using?
And by the way, it works fine with me with a number of Linux distros. So, I'm guessing the configuration is slightly off somewhere.
