I gave up on Vista. It doesn't like my hardware one bit. The Nvidia graphics drivers crash constantly, etc etc etc.
The stupid thing though is the Vista Upgrade Advisor says all of my hardware is compatible :axe:

I've loaded Windows Vista Ultimate on 10+ desktop systems and a few notebooks with no problems at all so far.... Can you please post up your system specifications so we know what you are working with?

So it detects the hard drives and you picked where you wanted windows Vista to install and it gets stuck after this?

I've heard this before - a guy at work installled Vista and his system gives him all sorts of warnings about drivers as he boots, but everything still works once he's in. Apparently nobody (almost) has come out with drivers yet that Vista likes... But, it will still run once you get past the warnings.

A side note, Vista won't let me install things just anywhere - even on my Admin account I can only install to c:\users\xxxx\. I'm not liking it after a week.

I havent had any problems with Visat myself, except the 64bit version.

Tristan - you might want to reinstall because you have something really messed up! I dont even know how you would have it set to only install in your user directory!!!! You sure you cant change it when you install something? Vista has actually impressed me a bit with it running with no problems so far. Even when I had an Intel MB with built in video, I jsut downloaded the drivers from Intel, and wham, everyting worked.

I dotn understand why people are having so many problems with Vista. I hate MS and the way it charges outrageous prices, but Vista is not all that bad.

Mike

Nahun - you do have the original Ultimate dvd correct? You shoudl have 32 and 64 bit i believe, so try installing the 64 bit and see if you get errors. If not, maybe you have a bad disca nd can get it replaced from MS. If you are installing a downloaded version - cant help ya.
Remember, I am opinionated and nothing I say or do reflects on anyone or anything else but me :finga:

It's Vista Home Premium, it came pre-installed on the laptop (a bog standard job I bought last wkend because I had no computer at all at home) so I have no disk or anything. I only ran into it yesterday when I tried to install WinRAR for some .bz2 files I had (and Vista didn't recognise, though I don't think any version of win would unzip .bz2's) - I like to keep my directories/folders/desktop neat, so I tried to install it into a new folder on the C:\ drive and it gave me an admin error. It's probably just a setting somewhere, but I haven't found it yet... should probably do some research, but if anyone has any thoughts (or simply the answer) that'd be handy enough as well...

Edit - It turns out I'm a dumbass. I can't DL to anything other than one of the user folders or the desktop, but I can install wherever I want. Sorry about that.
