How about an energy efficient house???

http://www.treehugger.com/files/2007/04 ... hs_hel.phpThe house tracks the sun, so that its triple-glazed front can face the warming sun in winter and show its well insulated back in summer. The balcony rail is a solar vacuum tube to heat water. Photovoltaics on the roof rotate independently to track the sun, generating four to six times the energy needed for the house, making it beyond zero energy and into "das Plusenergiehaus" or a "Plus-energy House." If that is not enough, there is on-site composting, chemical free sewage treatment and rainwater catchment.

Yeah but with current gas prices it may pay for itself...lets see, at Xmpg and $Y/gal, you'd have to drive ($92000)(X mi/gal)/($Y /gal)=92000X/Y mi, so an average sports car gets what, 15 mpg if you're lucky and with premium gas at ~$3.00 (its a sports car, must have premiumbubba wrote:http://www.teslamotors.com/performance/ ... _enabled=1

Yeah but they can do that in a normal building too, and then they wouldn't have to worry about figuring out how to run the plumbing. I just don't see the point in the whole building rotating, other than bragging rights.

That's pretty much what all ground-breaking technology is about, isn't it? I have the best, the biggest, the most powerful, the most efficient... Without people willing to go for the bragging rights, nothing (including architecture) would ever advance...bubba wrote:Yeah but they can do that in a normal building too, and then they wouldn't have to worry about figuring out how to run the plumbing. Outdoing the last guy is the driver for most, if not all, advancement by human beings.
ehh, the most efficient is the one that doesn't spin. The power that would be required to make it spin could be directed elsewhere.
Build the same building but keep the floors from rotating, still have the windmills/turbines between floors and while they're at it slap some solar panels on the sides. They now have a efficient building that can serve as a power plant.
Sorry, just see it a massive waste to have the thing spin. Don't see any techno gains from it.

It says that one building can power 10 others, so they are allowed to be a little extravagant on using electric in that tower. I wonder if you have to have stuff locked down as when it spins it will knock everything over.
They can chase the sun all day, or hind in the shade all day too. So maybe they should have solar panels on one side and do that anyway.

What's the techno gains from having those little lights in your case? How about the windows that seem to be in every case? Here's the klinker...whats the techno gains from dressing up in a dog outfit?bubba wrote:Sorry, just see it a massive waste to have the thing spin. Don't see any techno gains from it.

As human beings in general, our response to 'why did you do it?' is
'We do it because its fun; we do it because its cool; we do it because we can!'...and why not?
The one who says it can't be done should never interupt the one whose doing it
