Putting Together A New Toy...

Post by Apoptosis »

Just got in some new parts today and I'm one happy camper...

Image

What I got going on...

Dual Quad-Core Intel Xeon Processors X5365 (3GHz/1333MHzFSB)
Intel Workstation Board S5000XVN
4 x 1GB Samsung 667Mhz ECC FBDIMM Memory Modules
2 x LGA771-A Heat Sinks

I wont be able to build this bad boy for a bit, but oh damn I want to do it now! This is going to be one killer 8-core dual-cpu system!

Does this setup look like something you've seen before? Remember THIS?

I see damn good server potential or gaming potential and just sheer fun with that. Enjoy.

Merry freakin' Christmas! I get dibs on Apop's old stuff!
Don't ask me, cause I know nothing! I'm lost in this world of technology and am barely holding my head above water. Thank the Good Lord for LR, otherwise I would have drowned years ago.

Got the system to post...
Image

It looks great... 1KW PSU, and 3 Raptors with an Adaptec 3405 RAID Controller...
Image

Sadly the system won't enter the setup menu and an alarm goes off after about 80 seconds into the post sequence with the Adaptec 3405 RAID card installed... If I remove the RAID card and use the integrated SATA controllers the hard drives are detected, but when I load Vista 64-bit it says it can't install on that volume... I'm giving up for now, but will come back to it later... I've e-mailed Intel and Adaptec to let them know of the issue with the recently released RAID card.

Half it's pre-production boards that are junk to be honest... don't let the looks deceive you! I'd only give those out to people I don't like!

Just for an idea of the power... In the BIOS it's getting 480-490W ;)

I'm trying to install 64-bit vista and then fold on 8-cores while I am out of town meeting with some companies -- we shall see if I can get it all done today.

Update... Vista 64 installed...
