Upgrade Ram or not?
Upgrade Ram or not?
I have a Mesh Xtreme AMD 64 4000+ PC which i bought 2 years ago. It has a asus A8N Sli mobo and came with 2 x 512 PC3200 DDR400 (I presume) generic ram. Am considering upgrading the Ram to Corsair Twinx 2x512 or 2x1024. It has 4 Ram slots. Would it be better to keep the old ram and run 4x512 or run 2x512 + 2x1024, or just run the new 2x1024 twinset? Is there a noticeable benefit to going from 1gb to 2gb?
Only benefit i have seen is if you are a HUGE multi-tasker! I have also noticed going from 1gb to 2gb that my video editing programs seemed to love me more
If you are a power user, go with the best 2X1024 set you can afford. If you are just a normal person like me, grab a cheap set of 2X512 and add it in ;) If you overclock you want the high end stuff too, as i am finding out!

Why not throw a 1GB kit (512x2) in? Should be able to get one for around $100 and it would give you a performance boost that will last a while. I have an old AMD XP2500 system that I use in the garage and when I bumped it from 1GB to 2GB I noticed it ran quite a bit better. Just a thought, it's a cheap performance boost.
I would never die for my beliefs because I might be wrong.

Thanks for the replies.
Yes it is a 939 board. I use my computer for gaming and some photo editing as well as the more mundane stuff. Would plan to maybe keep this pc another 2 years if poss, am doing some upgrading at the mo. 650w Seasonic PSU, Radeon X1950PRO Ultimate graphics card is on the way as well.

IT won't help that much to do anything, a 3800x2 would help more if you want to stay on the 939 train they are like 80 dollars now on ewiz oem. dual core and can oc really easily to 2.6 most of the time. I'd recommend that or just waiting and upgrading the whole system. 2gb of ram only really helps in a few games or at really high resolution, hard multitasking and stuff like that. However dual core will help more.

Wait for ddr3... not an option... for someone who need mem now... Why? Because ddr3 is very expensive and compared to ddr2 isn't that faster
for about 100$ you get 2gb of good mem (good on OC as well) example
