RAM Recognition Issue

Post by Razorbacx »

I have a friend that just handed me 4 GB's of DDR333 PC2700, so I yanked out my existing 1Gb stick of DDR400 PC3200 and installed the 4 sticks of the other. I booted up my system and checked system and win xp home only recognizes 3.25GB's. I'm sure that there has got to be a fix for this and I would appreciate your help.

Thanks in advance.

System Specs:
AMD 3500+
ABIT AV8 Mobo
2 ea WD 80GB HD's
7800GS Video Card
BenQ DVD-RW Optical Drive
Win XP & Ubuntu (each on a separate drive)
Don't ask me, cause I know nothing! I'm lost in this world of technology and am barely holding my head above water. Thank the Good Lord for LR, otherwise I would have drowned years ago.

Its the limit of windows using a 32bit addressing system. To get the whole 4GB showing up you need a 64 bit OS, like xp64, or, vista *shudder*.

Somebody said that there was a 'hack' knocking around on some other forum, but didn't say what it was or where it could be found, so I don't believe that there is one :P
