d975xbx2 stupid question

I know i've seen this before but for the life of me can't recall the fix. I just did a clean install of xp pro onto a d975xbx2 with a qx6700 and all the goodies...I have the latest bios etc... It will connect to the internet fine, however, it will barely see my home network and gives that happy little "{insert network id here} is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. The list of servers for this workgroup is currently unavailable" error whenever i try to connect to the home network. I've tried every flavor of nic driver for this, uninstalling the services and clients for the nic to no avail. Any tips before I try a new install on the OS?

what kind of a home network? What router? Is automatic DHCP enabled? things like that will help in understanding your problem, as well as an example of your usage, e.g. what is the network resource that you trying to connect to? How is it configured?

Basic home network, router is a wrt54g, dhcp enabled. It's the most basic of home networks, essentially an ad hoc, 3 pc's all running xp home or pro, set to share drives, an additional pc is running all the printers and storage drives but has nothing additional set on it other than the normal settings for file and printer sharing.

Check that the workgroup is the same for all 3 PCs.
Browsing the network could be sometimes slow, have you tried just mapping the drives that are shared?
Do you use wireless at all?
I have WRT53GS, and sometimes it becomes very slow. I just power cycle it.

After doing everything I could think of, including running winsock fix 1.2, I had a flash of inspiration. After removing NIS 2007 everything seems to work just fine. Oh how I hate symantec

Glad you found your answer.

I found that the best way to uninstall Norton is with a sledge hammer and chainsaw (may be used in either order).
