I got ahold of a 2.8 and a p5gdc deluxe so i dexided to play around with it a little bit. interesting to see what the generic ram and that motherboard set themselves too even though its supposed to be 4-4-4-11
weird they work for me, though i'll never buy crappy generic ram that wont work better than specd at all sadly thats all i can get ahold of easily around here to play with :/
heh must have been comcast being annoying. eh what can i say i was bored and felt like entering a contest i just got my pqi 3200 turbo though so i will be seeing what i can do with a 3.0c and a p4p800se for now, until dfi finally fullfills my needs ;)
wow. you got generic ram to OC that high? were you using air cooling or water? i think that's pretty impressive. does the RAM last a while or does it eventually burn up? are you using heatsinks on the RAM or anything special like that? thanks for sharing, that's cool.
My friend just bought a bunch of parts without asking me first and wants to OC with some generic RAM he bought and i keep telling him to be careful but he doesn't get it. He just sees the specs (3200 400mhz, dual channel, etc) and doesn't know why someone would pay 2-3 times the price for hyperX or ocz memory. he got his memory at PC club (local store) a couple days ago. do you think they would exhange it for better RAM if i brought it in and paid the difference?
um brand im not sure, its from the rma test bench. but the vendor is allcomponents. it was micron ics if i remember right.
and ericm i wasnt actually over clocking the ram it is ddr2 533, i just wasnt able to tighten the timings at all.
For value ram in my experience kingston is on of the ones that sometimes uses what could be good overclocking ics like samsung tccc or hynix d43. pretty sure pc club needs the invoice (better off returning it and getting some at newegg if you can theyre a bit overpriced), maybe if they will let you look at some of the ram first you can find some stuff that has potential though.
if you can convince him (i dont know how much he paid) but pdp's xbl seems to be doing quite well and is pretty cheap. $225 shipped at newegg for 2x512.
