New Quad Core Monster!! **New case, New pics**

Post by Dragon_Cooler »

Finally after months of saving I was finally able to build a new machine for me. For once I wanted to go all out and try and get the best of the best and see what it was like. LOL So far its bad assssssss!!!! :) I bought all my parts from ZZF and newegg, whoever had the better deal at the time I bought from. Except for my processor, I did buy just barely used in mint condition from trusted person on another forum for $700 ( one heck of a deal!!!) In case you cant tell from the pics I got an ASUS Striker Extreme, 2GB Crucial Ballistix tracer pc-8500, and an Intel QX6700 cooled by a Zalman CNPS 9700 NT. SO FAR I FREAKING LOVE IT!!!! ok enough talk...pics
(side note, my 9700nt came in a late, so some of the pics are with the crappy stock cooler)

To answer the dying question, yes i am going to overclock once i get all settled in. I have a lan party comming up, so i am going to run some ubar benchmarks and really put it to the test. So far, All at the same time i was able to run CS, install a game, surf the web without the system even think about what it was doing, and thats just puny for a system like this. LOL My next few upgrades will involve a sata dvd burner to get rid of all IDE, A new case....not sure what one yet, and possibly another 8800gts.

No pay raise, just load of saving :)
what'd you have before the upgrade?
AMD 3800 X2, Corsair XMS pro, DFI lanparty ultra, Pro 64 cooler.

Well i have made a small OC jump, upped the multiplier from 10 to 11 for 2.93ghz and it runs stable with the idle temps @

0 54
1 49
2 52
3 45

and load

0 70
1 63
2 70
3 62

which about right for this proc. Once i get a little more confident and get a new PSU, i will do some more :)

I finally got the new case for the new build. After some serious thought, and i mean serious (weighing almost all the pros and cons) I decided to go with a brand that i use to turn my nose up at, Lian-Li. For the most part they are just......well, plain. This is also my first mid tower build. I normally like the room in my chassis.

This particular model, the PC-65 PLUS II, fit most all my necessities. Smaller, cable managment, a way to flash my Raptor X, and lightweight. Though it didnt fit everything I wanted it seemed to me the best fit what I was looking for. Though heavier than my previous THERMALTAKE SHARK, the size of it seems to make it a little easier to carry. I will try and get an informal review done on this case with the proper approval so i wont bore you with words, so for the time being...... PICS!!!

My room to hide cables for some decent cable managment

There is room under the hard drive cage to hide some cable :)

Tight fit in some places

And of course the geek has to have their photo-shoot :D

This is my favorite pic out of the hundreds i have....

Some of the minor mods i had to make to the case and are going to make the case are, the rear exhaust fan was blowing into the case, had to turn that around to blow out. The Video card fan is currently blowing out and i will have to make a nuts and bolts mod to make that blow in, Cut out the side of the hard drive case for the raptor X, and change the LED on the front of the case to a different color (probably clear white) Also get rid of the IDE DVD burner for a sata dvd burner.

I have noticed in shopping for this case their really isnt a lot of "reviews" on this particular case if any, which is one reason i am posting this and also going to see if i can get an informal review going.

Excellent cable routing, the black looks nice, though I still love my silver Lian-Li!

THANKS!!!

Yeah this is just a start, when i get in and do all of the mods and get my SATA dvd burner cable routing will be better than what it is now :)

So far its a little louder than my SHARK, but thats to be expected with twice as many fans.
