Worth waiting for??

Post by CMcguire »

I want to have a new computer built in 4months time at latest.. and was thinking of maybe making it sooner rather then later.. but now i keep hearing things about the new AMD/Intel chips and DDR 3 Memory... do you think any of this stuff is actually going be be out soon (i.e. within 4 months) or is it still a long way off.. and either way is it worth waiting for?

O and DX10 cards.. i keep hearing how crap the nvidia drivers on Vista for the 8800 series.. will they actually get better or will it be like the geforce 5900 ultra crap support for shaders that was a "DX9" card

Go for something now (i.e. DDR2), the prices of DDR3 if and when it comes out will most likely be really high. And the only major improvement that DDR3 will bring is faster memory, in my eyes 800Mhz memory is plenty fast enough now, unless you just want to brag about having DDR3 8-)

Only time will tell for the drivers on vista, though i think its more the OS's fault than the nvidia driver team at the minute, and maybe unoptimised (i.e. DX9) games that it falls behind xp on.

Depends on how much money you have to spend and how soon you want your next upgrade to be.

If money isn't a problem, I say wait. If your budget is tight, then go for it now. Prices are low especially on memory so you'd be good to buy now.

wont ddr2 prices drop even more when ddr3 comes out? I imagine there will be less demand for ddr2 and the prices will drop.

hahahahahahahahahahahaha :wipes a tear from my eye:

i'm with you 100% on that

BUT

prices most likely won't drop that much for DDR2. the majority of PC users are using DDR2 right now. i imagine maybe DDR prices would make a significant slip in prices but thats another big IF.

even though i know i could be wrong, my gut tells me that DDR2 prices wont be seeing much of a decline with the introduction of DDR3

They most likely won't drop until DDR3 becomes the mainstream memory, just like the transition from DDR to DDR2.

Imagine the prices of DDR falling down tho the 10-30 buck range, with DDR2 at around 40-60 bucks. that's ideal for me, i want to max out each motherboard i have with the full allotment of RAM.

doing that with DDR3 just might make someone have to take out a mortgage on their house, at least for the first year or so it's out

If I could get a good 1 gig stick at 40-60 bucks I would be willing to pay that much... I hope that is the case.

I agree that the prices for DDR2 wont drop much, even after DDR3 becomes mainstream.

I never wait for stuff, unless something is launching next week, and I know that it will be affordable, and in stock, which happens very seldom.
