D975xbx2 and Viewsonic VP231wb

Post by WilburNJ »

Wonder of someone here can help me with a strange situation on my new build. Whenever my new PC shuts down my Viewsonic monitor through the powersavings option in Vista 32, I can't get the monitor to turn back on. It stays in the powersaving mode (yellow light) versus "on" (green light). I can tell that the PC is running just fine.

I then tried not turning off the monitor through Vista's powersavings feature and, instead, just turned off my viewsonic manually via the power button on the monitor. Later, when I returned and turned the monitor on manually, I still can't get a video signal even though the monitor is in the "on" state (green light) for a few minutes -- before flipping into powersaving mode (yellow light).

When switching my Viewsonic with my Samsung SyncMaster 910T, I have none of these problems. Moreover, my Viewsonic works just fine in my other system, awakening upon mouse/keyboard activity as it's supposed to....

I suspect it has something to do with non-specific Vista drivers for the viewsonic monitor (shows up only as "Generic non-PNP monitor" in Display Settings), while the Samsung has Vista drivers.

Anyway, any help would be greatly appreciated. I want to use the Viewsonic on this system because I want the 23" of real estate for my photography hobby, which is why I purchased a fast CPU and overall system in the first place.

Thanks in advance,

Wilbur

u might have to change the power setting in vista

i had to do it to get my monitor to work, same prob as your experiancing:

1 go to control panel
2 system and maintenance
3 power options
4 switch to high performance
5 change plan settings
6 change computer to sleep to never
7 change turn off display to 30mins or more

and try that see if it solves your prob

also what video card driver are u running, check to see if its upto date?

i had problems with prev drivers for my 8800GTX sometimes when i started my pc nothing appeared on the display? the newest drivers fixed this issue though

Thanks for the suggestions, but I've tried both. My Viewsonic monitor just doesn't want to come back on after it's been manually turned off for a while or if it's put into powersaving mode by Vista. Also, I have to most up-to-date drivers from ATI on my x1950pro card.

Any additional suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
