xfx 650i ultra

Post by smokin_mitch »

I'm planning on building a system for a friend including:

core 2 e6600
2gb corsair ram ddr800
8800gts 320mb
xfx nforce 650i ultra

case (cooler master elite 330 with 430w psu or thermaltake soprano with 430w psu)

my question is will the 430w power supplies that come with these cases be enough?

and has anyone used the 650i ultra motherboards? are they any good?

im using a BFG 680i board and i think its awesome
My System:

Intel Core 2 Duo E6700 @ 3.33Ghz (1333fsb 333x10)

4Gb ram DDR2-1067Mhz Corsair pc8500C5D + Dominator fan
Inno3d 2x 8800GTX SLI (169.12 driver)
2x 250gb HDD (raid 0) + 1 750gb hdd

650i seems really good : see here

As for the PSU, check out its RAIL statistics, preferably the 12v one and see if it has 26A or better. 26A is Nvidia's recommended minimum current for the 8800GTS. So if the PSU does that then you should be OK. Personally I'd want to get something a bit bigger, but as long as the PSU has the rated 12v amps and is a decent make (dicecca will be able to tell you, he's our PSU guru here :P) then you should be OK.

Iam using a MSI (650i) SLI-FI with a E6420 and so far I like the 650i chipset . The "Ultra" boards lack SLI but are still based on the same 650i (northy) chipset .

The MSI board does have a few bugs in the bios , but thats kinda expected with any new chipset/mobo ; but for the most part the 650i chipset runs very very close to my brothers Evga 680i . All in all the 650i is a pretty solid performer and a nice deal for the $$$ . I can recommend it for any budget build and/or good gaming rig build.

As far as the power PSU ... you may want to go with something with abit more juice just to be safe and stable ; but again as mentioned , if the rails are high enough (and the connetors are 2.2 compliant) then you may be fine .
