Company Enhances Small & Medium Businesses Offerings, Responding to Growing Market Need
DALLAS -- May. 22, 2007 In an effort to better serve its core customer base, CompUSA is moving in a new direction. CompUSA today announced that it is building its business strategy towards its three most loyal customer segments. According to CompUSA's market research, its core customers include tech enthusiasts, educated professionals and small and medium businesses.

CompUSA is revising its product and services portfolio with the goal of moving to a customer base that is split between business and retail customers. The company will increase the number of products in its key growth areas to better meet the needs of these customer segments. The company is also exploring new store formats, increased technical services and targeted marketing efforts focused on its core customers.

"We're moving in a new direction to deliver the right mix of products and services to provide greater value to our core customer base," said Roman Ross, president and CEO, CompUSA. "Our goal is not to be everything to everyone. We're focusing our efforts on the customer base that best aligns with our clear value proposition."

With more than two decades of experience in the consumer electronics industry, CompUSA plans to differentiate itself in the marketplace by providing complete technology solutions for small and medium businesses. Business customers will see more commercial grade products and business level technology at CompUSA stores.

In addition to providing more products designed for small and medium businesses, the company will bring back products that are trade specific, such as a commercial level laser printer, a dot matrix printer and POS machines. CompUSA is also testing a new store format to include a designated section of the store specifically for small and medium businesses.

To further enhance the customer experience and ensure the company has the most highly trained workforce in the industry, CompUSA will offer its employees advanced technical training and certification programs.

In an effort to become a trusted technology resource to small and medium businesses, CompUSA stores will host free, in-store seminars and events geared at educating small business owners and their employees. The free events will be informational and solution-based and not focused on selling products.

"We believe we are meeting a key market need by providing this core group of customers with brick and mortar locations to see, learn and experience the latest technology that fits their clear need to be more productive, reduce cost and reduce risk," said Ross.

Earlier this year CompUSA expanded its technical services offerings to small businesses through a partnership with Microsoft called the CompUSA TechPro Business Providers program. The new program complements the company's current technical services program and links CompUSA business customers with Microsoft's Small Business Specialists to provide complete technology solutions for local businesses. Due to customer demand and the success of its technology support program, CompUSA business sales teams continue to serve the small business community in 29 cities that were affected by recent store closures. These cities are in addition to the services already offered at CompUSA's 103 stores.

CompUSA will also focus on serving tech enthusiasts and educated professionals. The company considers tech enthusiasts as early adopters of the latest technology products, while educated professionals are familiar with using high-end business products and are more apt to purchase them for their home use. To better target the tech enthusiasts and educated professionals, later this year CompUSA will launch new marketing initiatives in the store, on the Web and through its promotional materials.

The company will enhance its products, services and operations in all of its 103 stores in 68 markets in 39 states throughout the U.S. and Puerto Rico. Customers will see product, services and store merchandising enhancements throughout 2007.

CompUSA Inc., a Dallas-based company, is one of the nation's leading retailers and business resellers of technology products and services. CompUSA currently operates 103 locations in 39 states across the nation and in Puerto Rico on a go-forward basis. In addition, CompUSA's Web site, http://www.compusa.com , offers an assortment of more than 80,000 items.
