May 21, 2007 – Applied Data Systems Systems, a leader in low-power embedded computer systems and a subsidiary of Eurotech Group, S.p.A., announces today the launch of Zypad, the award-winning Windows CE wearable computer.

Zypad ideally serves the needs of workers in the transportation /distribution, retail, hospitality, military/government, field service/sales, manufacturing, warehousing, and healthcare industries. Freeing the mobile, hands-on worker from distracting data entry chores on a PC, PDA or paper can increase productivity and reduce errors. The Zypad wireless connections, via WiFi or Bluetooth technology, allow users to access virtually any database, including multimedia data, from anywhere. The Zypad web browser and remote display protocol (RDP) interface let it run thousands of existing applications, while its support of the Microsoft Win32 API and Compact Framework give third-party developers the tools to create new applications easily.

Key benefits of the Zypad are:

• Always connected – WiFi, Bluetooth, and a USB host and client
• Always on and situation aware – GPS and inertial sensors
• Works a full shift and more – power stingy RISC CPU, situation-aware power management, and hot-swap batteries
• Ready for user input – touch screen, transcriber handwriting recognition, function buttons and microphone
• Application ready – .NET CF, RDP, and built-in IE Browser
• Flexible – Multiple versions of the Zypad are available, including other features such as RFID or Zigbee support

Available in a lightweight commercial version as well as an upcoming ruggedized, mission-specific militarized version, Zypad brings enterprise class applications to the hands-on, mobile worker. Far more than a PDA with a strap, Zypad’s situational awareness cuts keystrokes making repetitive actions faster, easier and less fatiguing.

Zypad is in production now and ready for volume shipments. Applied Data welcomes inquiries from value-added integrators interested in becoming a distribution channel for the Zypad wearable computer. For more information, go to http://www.applieddata.net/Zypad

I had the feeling that this is a sort-of military spin-off.
