How accurate is Everest?
Guys,
I just put together my first system and installed Everest, and when i go to sensor section to view system temperatures it is telling that my CPU is running at 35 C, after about 20 sec it goes to 10 C, how is that possible? Even when idling a dual core CPU cant possibly run at 10 C, other temps like the vid card and HDD look ok, are the CPU temps accurate? Also, another question, in the sensor section there is also an item called Aux with a temp next to it, what is that mobo, sys?

Temperature sensing programs all use the same sensors in your computer, and just report what the sensors are reading, so results in different programs will be the same.
Additionally, while programs read the sensors with near perfect accuracy, the sensors don't read the actual temperatures with very good accuracy, sometimes you can check some whitepapers for the error tolerance on specific sensors. IIRC, the sensors in Athlon X2 processors are rated for +/- 14 degrees.

Thanks guys, i'll try the coretemp utility. I had no idea that Anthlons could be off by 14 C. Another inquiry, what about BIOS temp sensor, does it work like the rest of the programs or is it more accurate?

kenc51 where were you for this question?kenc51 wrote:Coretemp reads the temp diode in the the cpu core, which P4's don't have!!skierkid450 wrote:why doesn't coretemp work for P4?
Only rev. E AMD64 and Core 2 based Intels cpu's work.......with early AMD chips support was only experimental too.
