on-screen timer?

anyone know of a non-invasive, simple program that you can set a timer on your PC desktop?

runnin windows xp pro at the moment, but it'd be nice to be able to program little errands i need to wrench myself from the computer to do, instead of going D'OH! when i realize i've missed whatever it was i was supposed to do, you know?

Something like outlook works (if you have office already). It ususally pops up little reminders of when you have appointments. There's probably alot better programs out there though.
