temps are too high on my e6300.....help please!

I have no idea why my temps are so high! I and my father made sure that the Intel stock heatsink is on correctly, and it is! How did I check? well, I applied the heatsink on, then took it off to see if it was on, and it was!

I am also using arctic silver 5...... What to do? Time to get a new heatsink? The case I have coming tomorrow is this.

So, with of course, your guy's expertise, I need to find out what cooler will be best for my system!

umm the only thing i can think of. is how much as5 did you put on? or if your heat sink is making a good connection.

like i mentioned before, it is making perfect connection, if I pull the heatsink off now, I will know it was making connections, but this is not the first time. And for the amount of AS5 I applied, is a grain of rice worth.

most dont respond to new members cause most dont stay.

ok what are your voltages to your cpu? i use alot more as5 thats just me though. like 2 and a half grains of rice.

Not true, this is one of the few forums were everyone responds. These temperatures are typical for load on the intel stock cooler.

problem is....... that isn't load.....

As for voltage, I am just what my motherboard gives me. The motherboard I have is crap, I am going to replace it, when I get money.....

before you get another motherboard why dont you upgrade the cpu fan first.

I know I only reply to things that i can help with, or suggest obvious things that might not have been mentioned yet. ^^

Just to test heat sink connection, try pressing down on the top of it while its running and see if that effects temps.

What kind of rice? Basmatti, Aborio, Jasmine, ahh i cant remember anymore.

My qx6700 is running quite hot too. As soon as I get inspired, I will rip my rig apart and lap the thing as it is definitely concave on the top. The heat sink is hitting along the outer edges and not in the middle. I have a big ol' Zalman 9700 and it is about 15C hotter than the stock cooler. I think that because the stock cooler used a pad for contacting the CPU rather than grease. Maybe I just ought to go get on of those funky pads for the zalman??

I would take the cooler off look to see if the paste covered the chip well. Then re-seat the cooler make sure that it has clipped in all the way. I had one corner not clipped in all the way and my temps went through the roof. If you are unsure the cooler is clipped in all the way take the board out of the case and look on the back.

as for the 9700 cooler, if the mounting bracket (the black plastic part) hasn't tightened down enough to rest on the mobo all the way then the cooler isn't seated all the way down on the chip, might want to check that.

How hot is your room, how hot is your case inside, do you have enough cooling on the case to remove the hot air from the cpu, is the fan seated correctly?

If your case doesnt allow enough airflow, then this could cause everythign to operate at higher temps. Try removing the side of your case, and letting the computer run for at least 24 hours, then check the temps. If they have come down a good bit, then I woudl say it is probably your case, if not, then the fan istn seated properly or is too crappy to work right

AS5 should only have a REAL thin layer applied. It will also take a couple heat cycles to perform up to its reputation ( let the computer on for a couple hours, then turn it off for a couple hours, repeat about 5 times - if you turn it on all day and then off at night it will be goodd in about a week. )

well, I reseated the cpu cooler ONCE again (12th time now) and now the computer is sitting on its side, so I know pressure is being applied to the CPU heatsink on the CPU. temps are still through the roof.

It is just a crap processor. Thinking of trading it for a x2 4200+ or something.

here is the system right now:

I know the thermal paste compound is on, so do not worry about that (it has to spread, but don't forget, Intel has that shield on the processor, making it that thermal paste compound does not spread throughout the whole processor).

Ambient temperature is around 20-25 degrees right now, so I know it isn't the room being too warm.

Well I can help you no further then >_<

I'm at as much of a loss as to why its not working as you are. There's a small possibility the IHS or heatsink is warped so much that it can't make very good contact with the heatsink, but that requires you to take out your CPU and hold a really straight thing to it, such as a metal ruler. and see if it can make good flat contact along the edge. But U bet that you are sick of swapping in and out your CPU by now though.

Oh, I did that, forgot to mention, I looked in all angles, and used a ruler. I am on plenty other tech forums, so the theory of it being warped was a good one, as there has been plenty others with the same issue. But mine is not warped, it is perfectly straight. I think it is just a crap stock cooler not making good contact. I know its on properly, and the thermalpaste is on, its just that the heatsink might not be making full contact through the copper (heatsink could be warped?) Oh well, I will just get a new cooler if I have too.
