I don't know what the safe temperatures are for the 8800GTS, but i have heard that they do run relatively hot.

I would try google and see what you come up with.

81C under load is totally fine on stock cooling.

Some 8800s go higher than that, my X1900GT gets that hot as well at times.

Don't worry. :drinkers:

You can stop once you can use your card instead of your oven to cook food.

I agree 81c is nothing to be worried about.

well right now my mem is @1024/core is @ 680, any higher than this and it fails after about 5min of gaming, also when i go any higher and try to go to nvid control panel it freezes and i get the blue screen of death, so is this because it needs more voltage to reach a higher speed or is this termperature related?

Unless the temps have gone exponential on us since your last post about them, it's probably due to lack of voltage or that's the limit of the card.

If you want a great cooler try the Thermalright HR-03 Plus with a 92mm fan. I have one on my GTX. I am running 659|1020(2040 effective). Idle is 45-47C and load 55-61 depending on the title in question and the ambient room temp. Normal gaming is towards 55C. like "Oblivion" @ 1680x with high levels of filtering, and running something like ATiTools stress test where my card is putting up around 1.3k FPS is closer to 61C. That's with a closed case, system fans set to low and my panaflo 92mm fan on my HR-03 @ medium or lower.

It takes up space, and that can be minimized depending on how you mount it.

my 8800GTX goes to the high 70s and on a really hot summer day 80-81 when gaming.
It all depends on the air circulation in your case too. A well aired case can take as much as 5° of your temps.

My 8800GTX temps at stock speed easily hit above 80C with 100% fan while under load (gaming) so i think it is normal with a 8800GTs too

i advice not to get it above 90C while OC, you can use rivatuner and always set the fans at 100% (or to be 100% under load) so you can have a better OC
